HMBA Trail Status Mobile
« on: March 20, 2012, 02:43:29 PM »

I'm not sure if this has been done yet but I had a little free time.

http://hmbatrailstatus.herokuapp.com/

It uses the trail status rss feed. It could be easily moved to hmba.org since it's all client-side JavaScript.

I'd love to add in the ability to auto-sort by nearest trail (using your smartphones built-in gps) but the feed doesn't include lat and longs  ;)

So, do I just put a link to that page or does it actually install like an app?

You should be able to bookmark it like any other page. I didn't create any icons for it so you won't see anything fancy if you add it to your home screen.

It Sorta works on my HTC Evo.
It shows the Trail Status Chart but not the Trail it should correspond to.

What version of Android is on your Evo? I used jQuery Mobile and it's supposed to work on Android from 1.5 on. I'll probably pull jQM since it overkill for something as small as this. That will probably fix any rendering problems you're seeing.

The link should also work in any modern desktop browser in case you want something to compare it to.

I just installed the Android simulator. What you're seeing is not very helpful, sorry about that.

Hope to have something better before the weekend.

I was able to add the final feature: sorting by nearest trail.

This will use your browsers geo-location feature (if it has one) and sort the list based on the information. Otherwise, it falls back to alphabetic order.
