Unauthorized Trail Modifications
« on: August 15, 2011, 10:17:24 AM »
Unauthorized Trail Modifications are NOT allowed.  Specifically the cutting down/removing of trail side trees.   The trail was painstaking laid up to minimize the impact to the environment, and where possible, saplings were avoided to allow them to grow.  So don't be an ARMHOLE and cut down or damage any of the trees that are along the trail, regardless if YOU feel that they are in your way.  If you have a legitimate concern about a tree, rock or any other feature along the trail that you feel needs to be modified, please raise the issue here on this forum.  Or better yet, show up at the weekly trail building sessions (most Saturdays at 8:00) and raise the issue. The Fort Ben Trail Crew will be happy to discuss these concerns and if it is felt that they are valid, we will make the modification to the trail.

Like Huff has said on another thread, Schoen Creek is an INTERMEDIATE TRAIL and it does have a goodly number of TECHNICAL FEATURES. Slow down and enjoy them.

Don't CHANGE the trail, let the trail CHANGE you!

I know some of you will get a chuckle out of this but Im a rookie and just switched to clipless pedals . So if I stop to get a drink and forget my feet are locked in the pedals and fall over and snap a sappling would this be considered " Unauthorized Trail Modification" ?

In Germany you might be fined for the damage of the tree and all of the future saplings that tree would have produced. But "God bless America" you get a "get out of jail free pass"  ;D

Video footage of this particular event or at least an equally appealing re-enactment would most likley get you off the hook ;D

Had to "Un-Sanitize" the trail yesterday afternoon.  Someone piled up a bunch of rotting logs in an attempt to make a ramp coming off "The Box.  The logs could of shifted at anytime, causing a dangerous surprise endo.

As Dave say's "Don't CHANGE the trail, let the trail CHANGE you!"

I noticed last time I rode the trail some have started a cheater around one of the log crossings.

Perhaps we could find some broken Hawthorn tree branches with particuarly nasty thorns we could strategically place on either side of the log features to discourage cheater lines, or pay the price.

Just sayin'  ;D

I noticed on my second lap that I left a "vapor trail" on my first lap. Is that what you'd call sanitizing??  ;D ;D
