Relocating to Columbus area

I may be relocating to Columbus in the next month or two for a new job.  I know BCSP is about 20min west of Columbus, but I am curious if there are any other riding spots closer to Columbus?  Currently I live about 5 min from a fun little out and back in West Lafayette so it is really convenient to ride every day with a busy work and child schedule.  I am trying to convince the wife to get a place really close to BCSP, but she thinks I am being a little self centered   and may want to live closer to town.

columbus has a 19 mile loop called the people trail. depending on where your going to work you could ride everyday.  although it is concrete.  if your renting or buying a house i would stay in columbus.  nashville has little to rent and most houses aren't cheap.

All the local trails are in Brown County...BCSP, Gnawbone Camp, Valley Branch...Columbus has a nice people trail system, but no singletrack. Get a house along 46 west.

I know a great mortgage guy, if you are buying a house.   I ride the people trail alot for my in town rides. There are a couple of very short trails in town to ride, but nothing substantial. Caterpillar guy coming to Cummins?

Also, in addition to the ones listed to the west you have, the Nebo Ridge/Hickory Ridge trail system.  To the East, you have Mascatatuck and Versailles.  Nothing that is any closer than BCSP, GBC, or VBR though.

Sounds like you need to be on the west side to keep both you and the wife happy. I organize alot of rides in Columbus. if you want to me on my email list to get ride notices, shoot me a PM.

Thanks for the info guys.  Fett, I will definitely hit you up for riding info, I have a road bike also.  I will look more into the town trail system.  Not sure if I will need mortgage help or not      Regarding companies, I guess that shall remain unanswered   but you have a pretty good idea.

The west side of Columbus is where it is at.  There are a lot of great road rides and many miles of trails with in 20 minute drive.  I am with Cummins, a lot of Cummins group rides on trails and road every week.

I second that Dan71 I just move to the westside (Youthcamp road) and I see roadies everyday past my house. Alot of good hills and roads.

I agree the west is the best,I live on Georgetown nice road riding and some secret singletrack and soon starting pumptrack construction, also a Cummins emp.

I also live west of Columbus and can ride a road bike from my house in any direction and can have any type of ride I want flat or hilly. The Park is close for evening and morning rides. I also work at Cummins and ride my bike to work it's close to 9 miles one way.

We lived down that way for a while (Nashville actually) and moved there because of MTB'ing when I got a new job.  If your wife isn't in LOVE with Nashville, the small town thing and the riding scene...then definitely go to Columbus.  Like the others have said, look to the west side of Columbus.  That's where we started looking once we couldn't get the house built in Nashville that we wanted (long story there).  Tipton Lakes was one nice neighborhood that we really liked and actually made a couple of offers on houses in.   Also, we're now in the Lafayette area.  Talk about going from singletrack bliss to hell in no time   I'm jealous and you're going to love it is all I can say.  Good luck

Hey guys, thanks for all the info.  I am certainly excited, I have meeting with relocation company today and if that info is good I am going to accept offer.  I am thinking after looking I am going to rent an apt for 6 months or so and then maybe build or find a place just west of Columbus.  My wife has one year of school left and her income should dramatically improve so that could change our whole scope of what to buy.  thanks again for the info. 

Otter, there are 3 trails that I know of in Lafayette area.  Amphitheater, McCormick Woods, and Murdock park.  I live close to the Amphitheater and ride it daily, just a little out and back but I like it.

Yep, familiar with them all and actually put in a lot of trail building hours @ the Ampitheater.  Good luck with the new job and hope to see you on the trails.
