HMBA Chainsawers!
« on: February 23, 2010, 10:22:22 PM »
HMBA will be implementing a more structured chainsaw program in 2010.  Having skilled chainsaw operators is very important to trail maintenance.  It is also very important that those skilled operators have permission to clear downed trees and limbs and that they do so safely.  Anyone who wants to do chainsaw work on mountain bike trails for HMBA in 2010 will need to have attended or attend a chainsaw safety class, complete an HMBA chainsaw application, and where appropriate chainsaw safety gear, and be a member of an insured mtb organization.

Anyone who wishes to do chainsaw work in 2010 should attend the chainsaw safety classes at the HMBA annual meeting. If you can not attend, please send me a PM.

If you know anyone who would be interested or who operates a chainsaw on trail work days, please ask them to contact me.

Our 2010 HMBA insurance policy covers chainsawing, but requires training and safety gear.

The safety gear required is
Chaps
Helmet with ear protection and face shield
eye protection
gloves
work boots

If you currently operate a chainsaw with out the safety gear, please contact me.  HMBA can help with the cost of safety gear.

I heat with wood so I cut a lot of fire wood. Have 20" stihl. If there is a need I can help, will need to take safety coarse. Have everything but the chaps and helmet, could come up with a hard hat and facesheild from work. I live north of Brownsburg can help pretty much anywhere.

I have a chain saw, but I had to sit down after looking at the price of the safety gear.  I would need Chaps.  I have a hard hat, safety glasses and ear plugs as long as it doesn't have to be the cool flippy kind.
