Trail Conditions

I was out on Saturday afternoon and found quite a bit of broken glass on the trail by the north overlook. Picked a lot of it up but be on the lookout.

Just got back from a couple of laps. A lot of downed branches, got as many as I could pick up.  Trail is pretty dry, only a few slick patches down by the river.

On another note, there were 3 teens in a green toyota going about 30mph down the middle of the paved pedestrian trail on the top.  Called 911 and I'm pretty sure he got stopped.  Just keep an eye out for the stupids.

So I made my first trail ride ever yesterday at River Road.  Had a lot of fun and it certainly was a great way to wind down after a day of work.

I did notice a large tree down on the lower section of the trail.  I could carry through without heading off the trail, but definitely not something you could ride through with any skill level.

Long time "lurker", finally decided to register and post!

Rode River Rd. for the first time on Wednesday, and I also came to a halt because of the downed tree on the lower trail. I stepped over and through it, like the previous poster. It's too big to move by hand, it's either gonna need a chainsaw, or something else to get it out.

Also, I noticed quite a bit of broken glass on the top trail, particularly by the entrance closest to the canoe launch. I didn't have anything to clean it up with, so I had to leave it.

Hey guys, thanks for the heads up.  Tree was removed from lower trail today.

Work crews are scheduled for 7-19.  Plan to flatten some of the leaning sections then move south to Hazel Landing Park - the next "Gateway" trail.  The work is hard.  Skill set is maybe just one step above ditch digging!  Come have some fun.

We got quite a bit of rain last night in Fishers (about 6 miles from trail) so I'm guessing the trail is muddy. Bummer too, now that its finally cooled off!

Yesterday morning, I checked on River Road, Hazel Landing & Town Run. Since today the weather is much improved, I plan to do the same this am. I ride from my house so the loop works even if the dirt is not ridable.  Unfortunately, sections of Town Run are on the way to another user group (horses or swamp buggies)!!  I see it as a "perfect storm" of several factors including bad weather combined with a sport that is becoming more popular.

Until there are full time employment positions tasked with trail care maintenance, I am suggesting a volunteer trail crew connected by email (not the HMBA forum maybe yahoo group?) that patrol "their trail" regularly (every other day). They would be equiped to put-out small "fires" on their own and be willing to form groups for larger tasks & or re-routes when needed. This should free up HMBA to handle State wide issues while we take care of the trails in our back yard.

I will begin this effort in Hamilton County. If you are interested in being part of YOUR TRAIL Care Crew please email me your contact info with the tasked you prefer ( trash sweeper, mowing, trimming bushes, cutting trees, fixing mud holes, adding features or re-routes...). There will be 1-2 hr monthly clinics for you beginners to orient on safely completing your task.

Just got back from the trail.  I think its a yellow.  I was leaving tracks on most the trail, and there were a few very muddy spots.  Didn't ride past the top part of the trail, it was also a little slick for my newbie liking

Got out on the tandem today with mrs surette, nice! The view from the overlooks - lower trail was mostly mud & the task of regular trash pick-up is needed. I will also ask the parks dept for seasonal trash cans at the overlooks.

I rode the lower about 3pm and it was just fine.  Nice to see a trail actually drain after a rain!!

Adjustments to Lower trail began today.  I missed the memo on everybody wearing orange.  A big thanks to the Hamilton County Park dept. & Correctional dept.  It takes a team and many man hours to build & maintain natural surface trails.

I road all three trails along the once flooding White River.  I noticed a gang on bmx bikes.  Then ran into them again at TRT.  Great activity on this trail and the Hazel Landing path is well used by hikers, many with dogs.

I hiked River Road yesterday to check it out and noted quite a lot of glass on the upper trail not far from the gate. I didn't have gloves or anything with me to clean it up with. Also found my fingers itching for some clippers for a couple of small areas on the trail.

Hiked Hazel Dell Landing today with family. There is a large tree that has fallen across the trail maybe ten minutes walk from parking lot. Need gas powered chainsaw(I don't have one).
Did not see any tire marks on trail. Nice trail but needs traffic.
