Avon Trail Work
« on: April 07, 2006, 01:56:00 PM »
Join me for a morning of trailwork at Avon Park!  I am going to be working tomorrow morning (Saturday, April 8th) at about 7:30am.  We will be cutting in a new little section of trail on the other side of the old steel bridge, south of the baseball diamonds.

Call my cell if you can help! 679-4144

Thanks!
Brian

Cut-in a new little section of trail this morning, even though nobody called to help. I know I didnt give much of a notice, so I really wasn't expecting anyone to be available. But if anyone wants to help, give me a call so I can put you on my phone list for next time. Anyway the trail is across the creek on the other side of the old steel bridge. Now there is a complete loop of single track over there, instead of having to ride up the little rode to the bridge to finish a loop.
Also wanted to let everyone know the trails were dry there this morning so it's good for riding. Im really surprised how quick it drys up there this time of year.

Hey Andrew,
I really enjoy the new trail we all put in last spring too. I did a little trail work  at odd hours this past friday and monday so I didn't call any one for help. But when I do plan another trail work day I'll call you and post it here.

Brian,

I'm certain that you would appreciate all the help you can get.  If you give me a couple weeks heads up I'd love to come and help take care of the trail.  Never worked on trails yet, but I've got a good back and an ipod.  Contact me @ doogieemt@earthlink.net or 3175176088

Thanks,

Nathan

Hey Nathan,
Thanks for wanting to help with trail work. I Probable will not do much if any more trail work this spring because now I am buzy with my kids sports. But I will be sure to call you this fall when things slow down and I can do some trail work.
By the way I rode wednesday night and the trail was pretty good. Only a few wet spots. And the weeds are growing up on the trail across the steel bridge. I talked to Gary today and he already new about it and said his guys were going to cut them back. So all and all its good riding at avon if this new bunch of rain didn't make it a mess. And if it did I'm sure it will dry out in the next day or so.

Brian,
I might be able to help saturday morning, do you have the tools needed?  I am new to this and just helped a couple weeks ago at Ferdy, but I am short on equpment.  For anyone what type of work gloves are best to buy?  At ferdy my long fingered riding gloves didn't work out so well when it came time to pull thorn bushes.

Bob,
Thanks for responding.  I look forward to seeing you on the trail Saturday morning.  I have enough equipment supplied by the Park.  Any kind of leather work glove is fine.  I appreciate your willingness to help.

As of this time 6:47 pm Fri. night, work at Avon is still ON!!  There is high ground work that can be done too.    Not all work either, there is a good coffee shop close to the park for a post work brew (in the same parking lot is Legends for a post work brew too).  Come out and join us!  This park HAS purchased 80 more acres, and it is up to us to maintain our relationship so that more MILES may be added SOON!!  Thank you too ALL who donate their time!!

I did some trail work with the help of my two children Kate and Trevor Saturday afternoon right after the down pour of rain. Since I had my two children, I didn't contact anyone else to help because I wasn't sure how it was going to go. Anyone with children I'm sure understands. We work on some more wet spots on gamblesrun and the lower singletrack trails. The areas we worked on the weekend before are working good! The bigger project that we worked on was a trail reroute to higher ground right before the train bridge. It's usable now, but it needs a little more work on the southend and I would like to build a bridge on the north end to cross the drainage water because it is like a small stream this time of year. The park has wood to build a cribwall on gambles run were it is erroding. So hopefully we can work on some of these areas next weekend.

We are doing trailwork this Saturday at Avon park.  There is alot of work to get the trails in the best shape that we can for the DINO Race on the 21st and to just improve the trails for this year's riding season.  So... if you enjoy riding Avon and would like to help make it even better, we are meeting down at the maintenance barns at 8am, Saturday morning and working until 1pm.
If you cannot be there by 8am... show up when you can!  We will be doing work at the beginning of the trail head First Bridge, on Gamble's Run and back by the Train Bridge.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
