I did see they decided to go to dirtworld.com and bash it there as well. ::)
Once we start having trailwork days again I will be sure to let them know and maybe they can help us with the design of the new trail!

I finally got the word we can weed eat this sunday (sorry for short notice)!  I just figured next weekend will be a bad one with the fourth.  So a call out for all weed eaters at 7 a.m.  Meet down by the maintenance barn.  Anyone with a gas powered weed eater will be greatly appreciated, sorry again for short notice.  Todd feels we can get this done in about 3 hours with several guys working.  By the way anyone out there know how to fix weed eaters?  I have a gas powered one it just won't start and hasn't for awhile (and yes there is gas in it!)

I will try to make it out.  I don't think I can help fix the weedeater but there is a "magic elixir" that really does work called "Start Your Engines".  You can probably pick it up at Wal Mart.  We've started many 2 strokes with it that we thought the carbs would need to be rebuilt.

FYI the park manager never responded to my question of "can we use the parks weed eaters?"  So if you plan on coming make sure you bring one otherwise I am not sure if I will have any that can be loaned out.

Bob,                                                                                                                                                                                        Sorry I could not make it this morning. If you got all the open singletrack trimmed I will do my best to get over there when they reopen the back section and help get  that area trimmed and repaired. Brian and I rode over there yesterday and the recent flooding did some damage to the trails. I understand your current situationand know you got to take care of family first. We are talking about a possible B.C. trip next weekend if your interested.

Thanks to Todd H. for coming out today and helping me from 7:00-noon!  Thanks to him we were able to get everything in the park finished on the singletrack exept for the very back loop in woods back by the pond!  And I really appreciate it considering the extremely short notice I gave.  T-Wing we were able to get the trail along the river in the back so it is good to go!  As usual a lot of sand did get thrown up on it and we might have to look at maybe moving that trail up a little higher at those two points where the sand settles all the time.  I could be up for Brown County next weekend just let me know.  I will finally be finished with summer school Thursday and will have a little time during July.

Also, for everyone I talked to Kyle today (park worker) and he said it was ok to schedule a work day the fourth sunday of every month.  I will confirm this with Eric (park manager) this week and let everyone know.  I want to make it consistent so everyone knows well in advance and doesn't get a 48 hour notice like this week (my fault).  So that will be the plan to just put it on the fourth sunday of each month at 7 am, or first light later in the year whatever time that will be.

I have been waiting on a response from the manager and he got back to me today.  He wants to meet with me in the near future to set-up trail work to start 'NEW TRAIL' in the south property.  Currently I will probably do trailwork every fourth sunday as that is the same time my wife volunteers at church as well.  For people interested let me know what works best saturdays or sundays?  If I don't hear much we already have sunday FEB. 27 scheduled as the first work day.  Hopefully we can finally get back there and get some new trail  started!

Great news Bob! It will be great to get some new Trails back on the new property. Pluse the added length to the trail system thier will help.  Last year was a bummer with half the park closed off. >:( But this should be a good year at Avon since the construction is done.  ;DSaturdays works out best for me because I like to go to church on Sunday. But no matter when it is I still should be able to get out and help some.

Saturdays work out best for me also. That is when my kids do not have aswim meet or game. I was approached by a scout leader about possibly putting some of them to work on the trails to earn some kind of badges. I told him I would check into it. Let me know what you guys think about that. They would be more of the thirteen and over age group. Brian it is Mike Moore who is inquiring. So if you see him at work you might see what info you can get.

Cool saturdays might work better anyway unless we have softball :)  The only thing as usual I haven't heard back from him about a time to get togethor, so who knows if we will be starting in Feb.  I now see what Brian was saying and it isn't like I have much time to chase him right now.  I will do my best for everyone to continue reaching out to him so we can get more trail down this year.

Hey Todd! I think that would be great if the scouts could build some bridges for the new trails. And I know we are going to need some! Other scout troops have built a couple of the bridges that are on the trails in the park now. Gary, the park manager before Eric, organized that with the scouts and they did a real good job. I also know that some of the benches in the mosquito infested areas where built by scouts since Eric has been the manager. So if they could be directed to building bridges that would more useful to us as trail builders, than building a bench.  It would be best to have the trail mapped out first to know where the bridges need to be and then have Mike talk to Eric. Otherwise he might just have them build more benches?
And Bob, good luck with Eric! Hopefully after the new elected officials get in they will give more value to the trails in the park and us as volunteers.

First trailwork day will be Saturday March 5th!  After a year off we are finally ready.  I met with the park today and we walked the back property and in the next couple of days I will get route marked that Eric will then tweak and approve and we will be ready to build a NEW LOOP around the outside of the entire south property!  The March 5th workday we have a small reroute to work on in the back property.  And the bigger job will be on Gambles Run we have a tree down that pulled a huge root ball out of the side of the hill and just happened to be next to the trail.  As is it is not passable and they have tape up at the top to have the trail closed.  This is one of the best parts of this trail and it will be closed until we can get it filled back in.  So all help will be appreciated.  If not fixed by April they would have to reroute the DINO race.  Once these two issues are taking care of we will then be ready to start building NEW TRAIL in later workdays!  Saturday March 5th meet at the red barn 7:30-Noon.
