It's been a couple very productive Saturdays at WW. Thank you Bruce, Bryon and Jeff. This new section is gonna rock!

Haven't been out there for a while, is your new section a reroute or is it adding to the trail?  Where is it?  Thanks for all of your efforts in building and maintaining Westwood's trail, I do a lot of trail clearing out there throughout the year as I ride or hike with my dog but haven't been able to make it to any of the scheduled trail work days.

Hey Doug, we're redoing the road crossing towards the end of the lap.  It's pretty much hidden right now, though the complete corridor is now open and ready to be pinflagged and benchcut.  The current trail is a bad fall-line segment and needs to go.  We had to build a new hiking trail and reclaim the old one. It was also a bad fall-line segment.  The park wanted two separate trails in this location: one for foot traffic only and one for mtn biking, so that's what we're doing. It's gonna be a great improvement all the way around. Should be open next spring for sure. Join us when you can!

We'll be at Westwood this Saturday working on the road crossing reroute starting around 10am.  You can park at the main trailhead and hike in(backwards direction of how we ride.)  The new trail crosses the road east of where the existing trail crosses, or towards the lake.  Plenty to do, so come join the fun.

Stop working on Saturdays and that will cease to be an issue!

I wish, but people don't seem to care what day it is when they call 911.

Heading to Westwood this Saturday to finish the new and improved road crossing.  Meet at the main trailhead at 9am. Our worksite is easily accessible by hiking in backwards of how we normally ride the loop. Or you can park just down the road from our mtn bike road crossing at the lake overlook gravel lot approx 100yds away. Plenty to do so all are welcome.

Most of the time when I'm heading out to work on the trail its a last minute decision or a change in plans that has opened up some time.  I'll try to post up when I'm heading out to do some work so it will give others the opportunity to come help out if they can.  I also know that I don't work a schedule like the rest of the world so I don't have any unrealistic expectations of anyone ever being available when I go.  lol

I am going to go out tomorrow about 10:00 am to do some more cutting back and plan to start at the dam and continuing, hopefully, to mile marker #2.  That will give us the first 2 miles cut back and opened up, plus the sections that Mike has done while he has been out working.  If you are available I'd appreciate the company.

Westwood is getting a LOT of work done over this winter and spring.  Mike is working on clearing trail, fixing drainage, installing some dirt berms, and spraying.  I have been working on clearing trail debris, cutting out vines and limbs, and clearing trail sides back to prevent overgrowth this summer.  There were 4 new bridges installed in 2016 replacing 3 that were worn and rotting and 1 new bridge to put the trail over an area that was always wet.

Due in large part to a gracious donation from the HMBA there is going to be an Eagle Scout building a new shelter house just off the parking lot along with a new trail map for the mountain bikers.  This will give us a place to meet and rest between laps, for the insane people who ride more than one!  It will also give us a place to obtain information on the trail so take a look at the bulletin board that will be in there when its done.

Keep your eyes open for updates and more information on things going on at Westwood this year!  Go out and ride the trail, the more people who ride and use the trail the more open to future amenities and trail improvements the park will be!

I ran WW over the weekend and theres a large tree down just after the bridge named "knock out!" that goes over the large gully still kinda under the powerlines (cant remember #}.  You can see the bridge still from the tree, east side.

Yep, the "Knock Out" bridge is bridge 13.  There is a small reroute that goes up to the right so you can hop over the tree.  There is also a large tree down just before bridge #8 that as a runner you can duck under but riders will have to dismount.  Those will just have to wait until the park staff come back to work in late March or April.  Anything that requires a chain saw the park takes care of.  Everything else anyone can go out and do.

Thanks for letting us know though, I'd get it if I could.  The park is aware of those 2 trees down and will get them cleared when they can.

We are having a trail work day on Sunday March 26th @ 2:00 pm.  We will meet in the Big Oaks parking lot (where most of us park to ride) and go from there.  You can go to  https://www.facebook.com/groups/674709969317689/ for up to date info on the trail and more info on the work day.  The more people we can get out for this day the better the trail will be for the remainder of the summer!  We will be working to cut back the autumn olive and honey suckle then spraying the stumps to prevent regrowth as well as pruning back tree limbs and spraying thorn bushes.

The park will provide cutters, pruners, spray and some sprayers.  You will need to bring gloves, water and anything else you think might come in handy.  For questions to be answered quickly you can post them to our Facebook page (link above), I am on here every few days so I'll answer them on here too but it won't be as quick.  If you are planning to come please see our Facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/429057427428650/) and let us know or if you don't do Facebook just reply on here.  Thanks!!

Trail work day scheduled for today has been canceled due to the rain.  We will reschedule it and post when it will be.  Thank you to those who planned to come today, hopefully you can still salvage your day and do something fun.
