Upcoming Trail Work

Will someone be able to mow around the parking lot before the May14 event?  The normal people who mow won't be able to get to it by then. If someone could volunteer their time and mower that would be terrific.  You can do it on your own time and at your own pace.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Group trail trim session June 18th and 19th at 9am.

The emphasis is on the 18th (Saturday). Last year was the first time we got it all done in one day.  Let's see if we can do it again then ride Sunday.  It's going to take manpower to accomplish it, so please consider helping.  If we don't get it done Saturday, please consider Sunday too.  Some areas have already been done.  If anyone can do self-paced trimming between now and then, that will be very helpful (loppers or weedwacker).  Please post here what you did.

Those with weedwackers please take note:  The entire Novice and Intermediate will be mowed. There is no need to weedwack the ground on these two trails.  The mowers are 3x faster than the weedwackers.  Please spend your time weedwacking the stuff that grows in from the sides that the mowers cannot reach (mainly faceslappers or very irregular ground that the mowers cannot traverse). 

Unfortunately we do not have extra tools.  Please bring your weedwackers and mowers.  Those two items can do 95% of the work.  We are in desperate need of mowers. Simple push  mowers that you use at home on your yard is all that's needed.  It must be self-propelled to get up the hills.  Other than that, the simpler the mower the better it is.  Bring your loppers and pruners if you have them.  I find it best to carry pruners while I'm mowing or weedwacking to get the few limbs too big for the mowers/weedwackers.

-Expert 3: Done

-Parking lot: Done

Please bring:
-Weedwacker
-String for your weedwacker.  Carry plenty with you.  You will use a lot. It's a long walk back to the car to respool.  You will need something to cut your string unless you precut it at home.  I carry 2~3 pre-cut pieces.
-Gas for your weedwacker. You will use a lot.  Carry some with you in a small bottle.  I use a small water bottle and carry it in my pocket.
-Mower
-Gas for your mower. You will use a lot. A lot more than you think. I strap a 1 gallon can to the mower.
-Safety glasses
-Water (Something like a Camelbak seems to work best)
-Lunch (This is hard work. You will get hungry)
-Bugspray (you won't get far without it)

If we are adequately prepared, we can do this in record time and have one of the nicest trails in Indiana.

i rode yesterday and expert 2 DOES need some pruning!  i almost got pulled off the bike several times by face slappers!

RDA, E2 will be trimmed, but not on the scheduled group trimming days June 18th & 19th.  Could be before or after.

Novice trail is trimmed starting backwards to the intersection of Intermediate & E1. 
It will still need mowed on the edges, but all the trimming is complete.  There are 2 small trees larger than my pruners could handle that are a little low (for tall riders) that someone might want to go back & get later on.

Thanks wabasso. I will be carrying a handsaw when we come around with the mowers.  I will get whatever the pruners/weedwackers could not on Novice and Intermediate.

Work day scheduled for Saturday March 31st to repair The Pier.  Meet in the RNP parking lot at 9am.
The Pier has a few runners and a stringer that needs replaced.  This will be difficult since the lumber needed is 10 foot long pieces.  Need as much help as we can get to haul in the materials and complete the repair. 
Tools needed:  staple guns for T50 staples (I have staples), cordless drills/impact drivers. 
What to bring: water, lunch, work gloves.
