« on: August 03, 2018, 08:20:12 AM »
We are very close to finishing the Crooked Creek Loop and we are shooting to have it complete by the end of August.
We have 3 work sessions scheduled (may add more if needed).

Sat Aug 4thSun Aug 5thSat Aug 11th
Meet at the Upper Handicap parking lot on Crooked Creek Road.  We will need to drive back into the forest along forestry roads to get to the work site.  So please arrive by 10:00AM.

If you are on facebook, please follow the Yellowwood State Forest Bike Trails page for last minute updates on the trail work sessions.

Hopefully those of you who like rugged back country single track trails have been riding the Crooked Creek Trail in Yellowwood State Forest.
We are nearing completion of this loop and are going to have a big trail building event this Saturday, Aug 11th to make the final connection.
We have about 2000’ of trail to build and need your help to get the loop open.  Tasks range from bridge building, crib walling, bench cutting, to corridor clearing.
At the end of the work day, we will complete the Crooked Creek Loop, by decking the final bridge.
Please come out and help us finish this awesome back country single track loop.
Official start time is 10:00AM at the Upper Handicap Parking Lot (Top of Crooked Creek Rd Hill).  There will be an early bird start time of 8:00AM, also starting from the Upper Handicap Parking Lot.
Please arrive on time as we have to drive further back into the forest to get to the work site.
More details and the latest info can be found on the “Yellowwood State Forest Bike Trails” Facebook Page.

I am adding a Friday evening (Aug 10th) work session to prep for Saturday's main work session.  The main focus will be installing a crib wall on the ravine crossing.  Plenty of other tasks.

Meet at Upper Handicap Parking Lot at 6:00PM, we will drive back closer.  Or ride out and find us at the end of the trail (ride clockwise from 10 O'Clock Line).
If you are coming down for Saturday, we have a place to stay Friday night.  Its an empty house, so bring a sleeping pad and bag.

If you're coming from Nashville Crooked Creek Road is on the left about 5 miles from the stoplight at 46 and 135, just past the old Ski World property.  If you're coming from Bloomington it's on the right about 10 miles from the intersection of 446 and East 3rd Street/SR 46.  After you turn on Crooked Creek Road the parking lot is about 2-1/2 miles on the right.

A milestone 3 years in the making! Yesterday HMBA volunteers completed the last link of the Crooked Creek Loop at Yellowwood State Forest. This trail adds 5.5 miles of pristine backcountry singletrack and numerous connectivity options to the greater Brown County trail network.
-
Some quick, conservative math shows our volunteers moved something on the order of 300 TONS of dirt and rock, BY HAND, to make this trail a reality.
-
Also a big thank you to Quaff On Brewing for donating the most critical supplies of all: pizza and beer!

Hey I have a question that I'm ashamed of? Is this actually a loop? MTB Project and the above map make it look like the trail ends at a dam? Can you ride across the damn?
I've chatted with Paul about BCSP on MTBR and he gave me all the beta I needed to ride there. I've been three times (would be five times but I have a habit of getting rained out) and love it. This month I'm heading down with a friend who is a way better rider than I and I was thinking about an adventure into Yellowwood State Forest.

Ten o’clock trail starts in the Taylor Ridge camping area.  The trail starts near the “Play Area,” camp site 422.  Check out the property map and the Taylor Ridge map.  https://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2988.htm
