HMBA was made aware of this a few days ago. 

The 2 were not HMBA members at time and were acting out side of any knowledge of HMBA.  It is unfortunate that with all the successes we have had over the years and active trail projects that this would happen.  The individuals are facing legal issues and we would prefer to let them and the State deal with the matter.  HMBA is not currently involved. 

Please do not speculate or name (if you know) the individuals.

Yes, the names are out there for those who wish to google search. 

The matter is currently in the litigation process.  While HMBA is not currently involved in the case, it is still not prudent for HMBA to publicly comment on the topic.   I know many want the details now, but it will be a while. 

Our Annual meeting is Feb 21st and I can discuss to some extent for those interested.

So how big a bus are you guys going to throw huff under for this. Maybe he’s not a current member but he was a former president and a known trail sanitizer. Surprised he did this knowing how hard it is to get into places.

How big a bus would you suggest? The organization and all of the volunteers involved with the DNR work hard to get approval and follow all of the guidelines required to get trails built. Things like this work to undo years of effort.

This should serve as a reminder of why we continue to work within the rules and laws.

I do want to ensure everyone understands that HMBA is not involved with this issue.  This is a matter between the State and the defendants.  HMBA is not taking any action (bus throwing or otherwise), as there really is nothing for us to do. 

While we may have more information than is publicly available we do not know the whole story from either side.  Any comments by us could be interpreted as us taking sides and would be without full knowledge of the situation.  It is the right of both the defendants and prosecutor to provide the information they want to be made public. 

Please allow the legal process to play out.

The individuals involved threw themselves under the bus. It's between them,  DNR and the lawyers. Why would HMBA have anything to do with it? They are busy building and maintaining trail. We get what we are offered through building relationships. Serriptitious trail building and herbicide application in an area declared preserve won't help that relationship.

Also ... I think that you should consider that antagonizing DNR while they have your friend over a legal barrel might not be a good thing for your friend in terms of negotiating a plea.
