Why isn't Ski World a MTB park?

Surely I'm not the only person who drools every time I drive past ski world...

I always think of that when I drive by also.  Many years ago there were rumors of someone making a downhill course using the lifts but I think lifts are gone now.

I thought the same thing for years.  Used to ski there a lot when my dad was on the Ski Patrol.
Years ago, Perfect North looked to buy the property, but the current owner wanted to retain to much control, so it never sold.  Not sure who owns it now.
It could be made into a shuttle park very easily.
Someone hit the lottery and buy it!!

Last news I heard was a plan to build a 200 million dollar residential community.  I think the price the current land owner is hoping to get makes a mountain bike park financially impossible.

So yes, win the lottery!  Then instead of moving out West, stay and build a bike park.

That was Ski World, just west of Nashville on SR46.  Prior to that I've heard there was also one across from the Little Nashville Opry.

It is no more elevation than we already have at BCSP. It is just more visible from 46.  It is not that large of an area to have a good trail network.

The thought would be to make it a Bike Park with berms, drops, jumps and whatever crazy stuff people could think of.  It wouldn't be a place to ride for distance.

DINO held races at Ski World a few times in the 1990s and a DH & DS event once under my management in 2002 when the lifts were still working.
Most notably, in 2003 NORBA National Championship was at Ski World (NORBA was absorbed into USA Cycling in the early 00's.) Here is a race report... https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.bicycles.racing/w_IbrUYaXYY

The XC result list is pretty much a who's who of US MTB racers of the early 90's.

If there were still functional lifts it would be a great place for a bike park. Without lifts, seems hard to justify it with all that BCSP now has to offer. <font size corrected>

Eagle has made lifts for bike parks obsolete!


SKi World could be awesome. DH runs, XC trails, CX course(s) on the lower area, access to BCSP and Yellowwood, gravel rides all around.
Man, that wold be so sweet.

Does land in those three locations all touch that the trails could all be combined, maybe even with BCSP/YWW/HNF?  WOW if so....think of the 100's of miles of trails that could exist/link if that were to happen!  I know, I know....wishful thinking/dreaming at best, but hey, you never know!

Google maps shows Hoosier National Forest running parallel to SR46 behind Ski  World, about 1500 ft back from the road.  That would be close to the top of the Billy Kidd run (the tallest run that directly faces the road).  So, there's a good chance it abuts HNF.
