It sounds like we had a rouge person cut out log overs on Crooked Creek Trail I am heading down tonight to check out the damage. If anyone know who cut out the logs, please shoot me a PM. This happened between Saturday night and Tuesday. Most likely would have been on Sunday.
Crooked Creek is an expert level back country trail and the log overs are part of the trail's character. Some people don't like log overs, but there are plenty of log free trails in the State Park.
Only individuals on HMBA chainsaw crew and who are coordinating with the local trail crew should be cutting out trees. Our local crews understand the character of each trail and determine what goes and what stays. No one is allowed to chainsaw unless they are working in coordination with the local trail crew. We use a program called basecamp for our core volunteers to communicate. If you are not on the basecamp for a trail system. You are not allowed to operate a chainsaw.
It is very important that chainsaw work is approved and coordinated.
If you see anyone with a chain saw on the trails, please stop and ask them who they are. Our volunteers are happy to talk to riders. On Crooked Creek our primary chainsawers are Dimitri and Mahk.
We will be replacing the logs that have been removed. This slows down our efforts to build new trails which means it hurts all those who mountain bike in the area.
