Trail Need - Wrong Way Signs?

Yesterday on two separate occasions I came across people riding the trail in the wrong direction. This doesn't happen often, to me anyway. But one of them was at the start of the decent on the LC side. Fortunately, the two guys were already off to the side. I was able to stop and inform them that they were riding in the wrong direction. They had started on the Lawrence woods side and missed the right hander, then ended up going backwards.  I offered to lead them back to the turn and show them where they missed it.  The other was a group of guys (5-6) their 'leader' thought it was a bi-directional trail. They came in on the connector and made a left to ride clockwise.  First time I've had this issue this year, 2x in one day. Go figure.


Perhaps some "Stop Wrong Way (MTB)" signs like we had in the Epic (Awesome Event by the way!) this weekend would help.

Some places need another sign immediately "after" the intersection to reinforce the entrance signs. Some of the arrows out there are ambiguous.


Also some don't really get the arross with bike vs hiking blaze notation. A primer sign at trail entrances explaning the notation would clarify.

People read signs?  Naw....Really?  Had no idea.
In all honesty, more signs wouldn't stop wrong way riders, but I'll get with Paul and see what we can do.

I know the trails at Fort Harrison are counter clockwise ride trails.
Just wondering if at anytime in the future that might change to ride the trails both directions.

Maybe ride counter clockwise on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Ride clockwise on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Or some version of that.

That way people get to experience the trails in both directions if they want too.

I REALLY like this idea!  With only about 7.5 miles of trail total, it'd keep it from getting stale.  Maybe incorporate this idea at Town Run too...although most (all?) features would be out riding it CCW the way things are set up.

If people have trouble figuring out the correct direction to ride when the trails are always one way in the same direction, it seems like there would be a lot more confusion if the direction changed every other day.

Lol .... Obviously one can't help the deliberately ignorant.

But good sign placement can help those who want to do the right thing. The first few times I road Schoen I went the wrong way ... The arrows at the 3 way are ambiguous. Similarly the arrows near the West trailhead are also ambiguous.

It's very different ride when oncoming riders are constantly gumming up rides.

I vote to keep it one way.

DTE trail (Big Kame) is a very crowded 2 loop trail system in Michigan and they pull off the rotating direction thing. I think it's needed at The Fort. System is too small, mix it up. The people will figure it out with signage
