Good trail for kids?

Hello all, my 9 year old daughter is showing some interest in Mountain biking after having participated in the Dino adventure days. We live in greenwood and are looking for a central IN trail that would be fun and safe for a kid just starting out.  Any suggestions?

When my kids were that age they enjoyed Limekiln and Pine Loop at Brown County State Park.

Hi Dan, I think Limekiln will be a great next step for her but am looking for something super entry level to start. Reasonably flat and wide and not at all scary. I've ridden alot of our trails but really can't think of anything that fits this description.

Southwestway park has some wide flat trails that would probably be a good intro. The gravel/dirt horse loop (cockrum) and the trail around the west side of Mann hill fit your description pretty well I think.

Great sugestion,  thanks! I hadn't thought of the trail around the west side of the hill, that would do nicely I think. Is it OK for bikes to ride on the gravel/dirt horse trail?

Avon, Washington township park, I have not been there for about 3 years but they have nice flat very wide trails.  Some trails you could ride 3 wide easy.  They also have scenic paved trails.  Great place for kids and parents to ride.

If you ever venture south, Harmonie State Park has some wonderful beginner trails. She would have a blast on them!

Yep. That's where I started my kids (after pushing them down some grassy hills at Southeastway Park). If they can do that easily, the first part of Town Run to Talking Tree and back isn't too rough.

I would love to check out Harmonie sometime, have never been. I agree that Town run is a blast and could be a good next step for her, my biggest worry there is that she would get run over or anger someone running there own personal time trials. Unfortunately that can be a common occurrence at Town run.

In that case you would be well justified in accidentally bumping them off the trail as they whiz by...or make it a life lesson and explain what happens to bikers when they take themselves way too seriously.

You might want to try Flat Fork Creek Park in Fishers. It's mostly flat and family friendly riding. It is a small progression park with 2 wall rides, skinnies and minor obstacles. All the progressive features can easily be ridden around for beginners and it's mainly flat not much elevation change.
I am working with the Fishers parks department on adding more trail in the near future.
Looking at putting a trail heading up their sledding hill then down the side with a drop off at the end.

I've heard really good things about flat fork, will definitely be checking it out soon. Always excited to hear about new trails in our area!
