What's your favorite bike shop and why?
« on: April 05, 2016, 02:10:33 PM »
Post up about your favorite bike shop and what makes it special.  Great service, inventory, or online catalog.  Maybe it is the local flavor, product/bike brand or selection, or maybe they have a great wrench that gets it right every time.  It can be local or one that you've visited when out of town or even an online retailer.  Provide links if possible.

I second the Bicycle Station in Columbus.  They are very engaged in the community, promoting cycling. They also completely live the cycling lifestyle. They commute everywhere around town and grocery shop on their bikes.

You would also be hard pressed to find anyone who knows more  about mountain biking than Matt Battin. He has, more than a couple of times, stayed late on a Friday night for me to make sure my bike was ready to race on Saturday.

I'd have to say LoKe Bicycles in Fishers at 116th and Brookschool Rd is my favorite.  They are a small locally owned shop that offers top notch service and products.  They usually have what I'm needing and their pricing is on par with everyone else.  They also offer a LoKe Club which costs $48 per year but it gives you a free jersey and a discount on everything you buy in there.  Great group of guys working there too!

+1 for Loke! I made an attempt to build a frame up, but lacked more tools and knowhow than I needed to finish it. Their great staff and good prices got me out on the trails the next day!

I gotta say when our police dept started our bike team Gray Goat did every thing they could to help us out.  Since then I've shopped there exclusively with never a bad experience.  They are a great group of people and very helpful.  Also great supporters of the bike community.

You asked for my opinion - I just moved to Indy about 3 years ago, so I was actively looking at different bike shops to find the right "fit".  I found that most bike shops in Indy are primarily ROAD bike shops.  However, I was impressed when I found Indy Cycle Specialists in Irvington.  Scott is a true mountain biker.  I don't live close to there, but I'm willing to drive to support a mountain bike shop.  I also buy parts at Bicycle Outfitters Indy, because it's close to home.  They can get parts pretty quick and their mechanics are pretty good as well.  No hard feelings to anybody else.  I applaud any local bike shop.  It's a tough business.  I wish I could spend all day working on bikes.
