Purchased new. This bike hasn’t seen much use since I got a 2014 Specialized Epic Expert Carbon 29er. Kept the 2012 for a backup bike but it doesn’t make sense to have two Carbon Epics. My 2012 performs every bit as good as the 2014. No question.
Added Specialized Roval carbon wheels. These wheels are amazing. I could feel the difference from aluminum wheels when I first rolled out of the driveway to go to the trail. I’ve been able to run low pressures. I’m 190 pounds and I run 18 psi front and 21 psi rear at most trails. The grip is amazing. Been using Stan’s tubeless with fantastic results. The tires are hard to get on and off the carbon rims, but that pays off when running low pressures, so it’s fine by me. I use the Stan’s injector to top off the fluid and I don’t have to unmount the tires. Easy.
Replaced the stock brakes with Magura MTS with 160mm rotors. Nice upgrade. Great brake modulation.
Also added Ergon GS1 grips. I still have the stock grips as well.
I could throw in some SPD pedals.
