Some MTB Project Love???
« on: March 05, 2016, 05:10:46 PM »

So, maybe you've been to O'Bannon. Maybe you've ridden the new trails, and maybe you've ridden the "Featured Ride".

So, how about going to the MTBProject site and showing a little love? I mean c'mon, only ten votes? Seriously? That's the best we can do? And Versailles, with only 17 votes? What's up with that? Does everyone only ride Brown County or what?

Or has everyone already stopped using the MTB Project website and app???

No trails have been added to O'Bannon Woods State Park.Help build the crowd sourced database by submitting a trail.

According to Trailforks, this trail doesn't even exist.

So what does that have to do with the MTB Project site?

Trailforks relies on user submissions just like mtbproject. I am pretty sure the bcsp listing only exists on trailforks because one of their employees downloaded the data I submitted to mtbproject and listed it there with no text descriptions of anything.

Lame. Because of that, I refuse to submit to trailforks. It can blow goats for all I care. If their employees are only going to skim off other sites to build their database, I won't waste my time. They will eventually take the data I and others have submitted to mtbproject for other trails, anyway.

I have not visited OBannon yet. But I have already given Versailles a rating (since mtbproject requires the person who creates the listing to rate it).

That brings up a good question--Nate, I know you submitted a number of trails to MTB Project. Since you said you didn't add the trails to Trailforks, can we perhaps hear from someone who has added trails to Trailforks?

I notice that all the trails at Versailles aren't listed, and the same for Brown County. Obviously, O'Bannon is missing, and so is Ferdinand SF and Harmonie. But they do have French Lick.

Maybe the riders who have helped create some of those maps of the trails in Indiana can help provide more information about Trailforks?

It is quite time-consuming to keep up with all the various programs that may be in use.

Thanks!

I use both apps, depending which has better maps for a given area. For someone only using one app, and using it to search for trails, they might just keep on driving, due to lack of awareness. If the goal is to put more people in parks, then more exposure is always better.

I use  MTB project, but am not sure if I've voted for anything yet.  I'll have to check it out.

I don't think the people who have submitted content to Trailforks visit here. Last I looked there, I didn't recognize any names of submitters.

If someone else wants to list stuff at Trailforks, they are free to have at it. Listing trails on mtbproject alone is enough work as it is and I had a difficult time finding anyone to help me out near Indy at all. And it is easy to get frustrated with the process.

I also have a certain quality standard for stuff I work on. TF allows you to submit trails without any descriptive info at all. I think incomplete information is worse than none. At least with none, it is pretty obvious that people should look elsewhere. That may be less obvious with incomplete information.

Soooo, speaking of O'Bannon Woods and MTB project...

Does MTB Project show all of the trails?  I hope to ride there Sunday.

Every once in a while I am in the area for business. This time it looks like it will work out. Looking forward to my first time at the park!   :D
