When and where do we purchase them?  Is there also an annual permit that can be purchased for the National Forest?  Where do we go to purchase those and how much do they cost?

At what date will they be needed? Immediately/Jan 1? Apologies if this has already been answered.

Keep in mind that (I believe) ICS is closed for the holidays until Monday, 1/4/16.  I think Story Inn sells them as well if you'll be riding HNF/Nebo before 1/4; I'll be riding parts of it tomorrow but most will be gravel/road (first 1/2 of the Gravel Grovel route) starting at the Midwest Trail Ride camp, so I just plan to wait and buy mine from ICS.  I'm also holding off on the annual State Park pass as no one has been at the Fort Harrison front gate the past several times I've been there and I haven't been to VSP or BCSP recently (unfortunately) either.  I also hope to get the Off-Road permit "free" due to last year's volunteer work I did at multiple trails in the state.

How do you get one of these permits if you live out of state?

Hey Paul - do you know if there is any exception for events?  Wondering what I am going to have to do for the women's clinic.  Three (or more) days of riding for all of my participants, coaches and volunteers.  No way I can keep them all on just Beginner trails, even though most of our participants are Intro and Beginner riders.

Is there anyone at InDNR that I can contact to find out?

Tania,

We went round and round with them about events. They are not cutting any breaks for events.

It is up to the riders to have permits for the events.

Yes, this means trail running races can be held on the mtb trails without permits but participants in any mtb event will need permits.

I purchased a permit at the gate the other day.  The park employee that sold it had sympathy for the mountain bikers, obviously he did not agree with the permit.

I initially asked for season pass to the park, had mountain bike on back of car he never said anything about off road permit.  My two neighbors did not know about this new off road permit.  Who tells the riders that are not on these forums?

I had assumed so. Thank you.

"I initially asked for season pass to the park, had mountain bike on back of car he never said anything about off road permit.  My two neighbors did not know about this new off road permit.  Who tells the riders that are not on these forums?"

And to add an additional degree of complexity, who tells newbies which trails they can ride without a permit and makes sure they don't stray?  I wish I had a dollar for every new biker I have found endlessly circling the trails or off on some fire road somewhere.
