Lost and Found Thread
« on: July 25, 2015, 12:13:53 PM »
I think it would be a great idea to have a "Lost and Found" Thread on the forum page. It would help members reunite with stuff they lose on the trail. It should have it's own header. Maybe a spot in "The Den" section?

Create one and a mod can sticky it.

OK! I tried to get that done and I can not create a new topic in "The Den" I can comment on existing topics but I can not, as far as I can tell, create and new topic titled "Lost & Found" which is what is proposed. I may be that only Mods can create a new topic?

No, you can't create a new 'Sub-Forum' in the Den, but you should be able to start a new thread in one of the existing sub-forums in the Den. Of the existing sub-forums, 'Rants and Raves' appears to be the only possible fit for a "Lost and Found" thread. I suggest you place it there.

Since it's neither a rant or a rave no one would be inclined to look there, if it's too much hassle no big deal. Just thought it might be helpfull. The issue that created the suggestion has been resolved through Facebook, maybe that is a better medium after all.

Lost and found type stuff is really only relevant to specific trails, anyway, rather than just a general audience.

Different audiences tend to follow each medium. Many people who check the forums do not follow the Facebook groups for the relevant trails, and many people who follow those Facebook groups do not post on the forums. Some check both, but it's relatively few. I think forum traffic is down somewhat due to the popularity of Facebook for discussions, anyway.

I follow a few Facebook groups centered on specific trails, but I don't check every single one for every single trail in the state, and I doubt more than a couple do that.

Benefit of the forum is that the topics that get posted have more permanence than Facebook posts do. It's easier to dig into post archives here than there.

Then a "Lost & Found" header covering all trails would make sense here in the HMBA forum, it's just another benefit of membership.

Hi, I couldn't add the topic either.  We are working on some upgrades.  Hang tight.

Sounds good, looks like a wedding ring was found at TRTP today as well.
