West wood help!
« on: June 17, 2015, 11:37:01 AM »
I want to try and organize a day to get west wood groomed and cleaned up. We need 4 weed eaters, 8 people, and full day. Anyone interested?

I (tried) to ride Westwood yesterday. Bailed when the nettles and overgrowth became too nasty. Glad to hear there is a work session soon. The lady at the gate said, "Yes, the trail is overgrown. Don't ask for your money back." At $5.50 a pop, it's a raw deal at this point.

Can't make it on the 8th (unless another DINO race is rained out), but want to help out.  Let me know if some trimming is still required after the 8th.  Been too long since I rode that place...wanna help get it back in shape.

Chris, do you happen to know where it was that you bailed?  That will give me a good idea of what I'm getting into when I go out to check this week.

Thanks,
Doug

I can't wait for this great trail to get the care that it deserves. Wish more people would take advantage it the trail. If you've never ridden it come out and see what you've been missing out on. And the bonus is that it's a fast drying trail.

I'd like to say THANK YOU to Jeff Millikan, Jeff Seelig, Steve Heady, Tom Buckles, Andy Lee and Mike Hufhand for their hard work on the trail Saturday.  We got a lot of the really bad spots opened up and got the trail in really good shape from bridge 18 (floating bridge) all the way to the end.  There are a couple other places that are cleared out as well but there is still a lot more that needs done.

I went back out on Tuesday this week and worked some more and got it cleared back to bridge 17, but from bridge 14 to 17 is still in need of a lot of work.  With the exception of about 1.5 miles the whole trail from the beginning to bridge 17 needs cut back.  Obviously some areas are a lot worse than others, the 1.5 miles are areas that have already been cleared and not everywhere that hasn't been hit needs it but it is easiest to say it could all use some attention.

If you have some time to donate towards the trail you can either let me know and I can set it up or just call the park and tell them that you would like to work.  They have equipment for you to use so you don't need anything other than bug spray and some water.

The trail is ride-able, but will still be aggravating in some spots.  I rode Tuesday after working for about 3 hours and it was like hero dirt!  The actual dirt is in awesome shape right now.
