2015 Road Construction on 135 between 46 and Brownstown
« on: March 04, 2015, 01:40:58 PM »
INDOT will be doing construction on 135 in a few spots in 2015 between SR 46 and Brownstown. The first of these projects will be the bridge over Gnaw Bone Creek.

Quote
BROWN COUNTY, Ind.—The Indiana Department of Transportation closed State Road 135 at Gnaw Bone Creek in Brown County at noon today for a bridge replacement project. The north-south highway will remain closed for 60 days.
A state highway detour routes traffic around the construction site via S.R. 46, I-65 and S.R. 58.
Schutt-Lookabill is INDOT’s contractor for this $746,792 project located just south of S.R. 46 in Washington Township. The Indianapolis company will replace the S.R. 135/Gnaw Bone Creek bridge’s superstructure. This includes removal and replacement of the bridge deck and rails, repairs at bridge piers and new pavement approaches.
The S.R. 135 Gnaw Bone Creek bridge is a 3-span continuous reinforced concrete structure—123 feet in length with 32 feet of clear roadway side-to-side.
Contract completion date is April 30.

If you usually take SR 46 to SR 135 to access Gnaw Bone Camp or Nebo Ridge, you can take Valley Branch Road to detour around this bridge work.

If other projects affect trail access throughout the year, feel free to post here.

Valley Branch Road is in pretty bad shape. It is narrow, and there are some huge gravelly chuckhole clusters. If you are swerving to avoid one, be advised the locals give no quarter when they are approaching from the opposite direction.
