New to riding
« on: June 25, 2014, 01:05:30 PM »
I figured this was a good spot to start as I go to Washington Township park to fish some and I live a few miles away. Does anyone go there to ride? Since I have very little experience anywhere, I was wondering if a group was going out and wouldn't mind an out of shape newb tagging along?

Welcome dethloc!  I'm not sure if there is a regular group anymore at WTP.  I would recommend you also come down to Southwestway Park and ride our new trails too!   They're pretty sweet.

Thanks,

I have some new tires coming within the week and I will see about coming down there. Is there plenty of easy trails there for me to learn on? I have a very old bike, but want to get some riding in to find my style and commitment to riding on a regular basis.

Another side question, do you know of any demo days coming up? I am interested in trying some different bikes and it seems I missed 2 good ones within the last 30 days.

Southwestway has enough beginner trail to whet your appetite. And by pure chance, I learned the other night that Scott will have demo bikes at SWW this coming Sunday the 29th, as stated by a young man who works at Loke Bicycles in Fishers. I confirmed they'll be out there from 12pm-6pm with MTB and road models.

Awesome! Hopefully my tires will be in, if not I will grab my helmet and stop by.

Thanks for the info :)

Ya don't say? ;)

dethloc - Usually you'll want to bring ID and a credit card to secure a demo bike, I can't imagine they wouldn't require the same for this event.

Monitor the HMBA Calendar for things like demo days.  We've been trying to get as many of them on there this year as we can.  Sometimes the manufacturers keep the event dates kinda quiet except within their list of dealers.  Sometimes they advertise, but have few details.  It can be tough sometimes.

Hey! I'm also in Avon and confused by the trail map. I've ridden there before (and had a great time), but the trails can get confusing sometimes as there is no one way to ride it.
Anyone have a recommendation for a combo of trails to makeup a decent loop? I'm looking for a trail layout similar in style and length to Town Run.

Southwestways trails are ever-evolving. They are being added to by the week.
It's hard to really define one particular loop. I usually ride the original Lenape loop, then onto the new trail that goes down along the golfcourse. Once I make one big lop, I'll cut up to the flow trail, and ride wherever my heart takes me.
Friends and I have don the flow trail 2-3 times in a row.
Just go ride, and you'll have fun.
Once the system is done, I know there will be good maps and signage made.
