HP Bowl Aug 1-3rd: Trail Building and Camping
« on: July 27, 2014, 07:59:05 PM »
We have been making some great progress on the HP Bowl Trail and we have another trail building / Camping Weekend coming up.

on Friday we have a group from Cummins.  We will be working with them at 1:00PM on HP Bowl.

Saturday will be more work on HP Bowl.  The early bird work session will start at 9:00AM.  There will also be a 1:00PM work session.  You are welcome to join in at any time, but we will be at the scenic over look to gather troups at 9:00AM and noon.  If you come at a different time, look on the table for direction to the work site (we may start working down from the other side).

Sunday's work session will be at 10:00AM.

Bring a bike as there is plenty of new trail that needs to be tested and packed in.  Camping for volunteers at Rally 4.  We will likely going to town for dinner on Friday night (Pine Room most likely) and eat at the camp site on Saturday evening.

trail work will be based from the scenic overlook South of the Aynes house (it is labeled as "Vista" on the current park map)  http://www.in.gov/dnr/files/brown_co_trail.pdf

Set set an all time HMBA record for trail built in a week end.  Big thanks to the employees from Cummins.  36 Cummins employees came out on Friday and they picked up bench cutting quickly.

Saturday and Sunday the HMBA crew came out and we crushed out some more great trail.

By the end of the weekend we build 1700' of expert level trail and connected the new trail to a fire road that will allow us to use the new trial for the HMBA epic.

The new trail is no cake walk.  It is steep, has rocks, tight turns, and lots of log jumps.  But it doesn't have the exposure of Schooner, so it is a great trail for riders to work on their tech skills.

Next big work/camp weekend is Sept 5th - 7th.

Same spot after a little trail building

Rock armored ravine crossing

Big rocks

Fen Valley

Gnawbone Lefty stopping by to inspect our work.

Some post work day refreshments as we secured the the bridge decking.

We had 20 workers on Sunday, here are ones who stayed for the post work refreshments

Thanks to all who came out.

Im glad I was able to help out a little on Saturday, and get to see this new trail. Even if one can't ride it all, it will be well worth the effort to just see the beautiful surroundings.
