We were walking The trails yesterday and seen an old man with a saw and rhino covering some roots. The more we walked the more places we seen. We thought since he had a rhino he was suppose to be there. We are riders in recovery right now!

That hurt David! [emoji26]  I've moved a lot of dirt this summer, but this is a whole nother animal.  A few of the spots it's pretty good work, but a lot of others I'm asking myself why???

My guess would be a runner or trail hiker that doesn't like to roll an ankle on roots/rocks and probably is trying to prevent others from doing the same.  They're probably well-intentioned but don't realize they're not supposed to be doing unauthorized trail work.

I'm off work these next two weeks (fall break) and will head out there a couple times during the week (would imagine most is being done then vs. when there is higher traffic on weekends) and see if I can't find the Ol' Sasquatch and have a pleasant conversation with him!   ???

At first, it seemed pretty innocuous. Just covering up roots that seem to have become more prominent from the heavy rains. Most of that stuff is going to pack in/wash away anyway and you won't be able to tell the work was ever done by next summer.

But yesterday when my wife rode there, she was excited to ride the big rock on the left side of the LC trail (it's an optional line but it's always been entirely rollable - though I can't remember exactly where on the trail it is, it's definitely NOT in the valley of dispute), she noticed that a bunch of dirt had been packed in on the backside of it, eliminating whatever challenge the rock had to begin with.

Covering roots that have been exposed through erosion from the heavy rain this year is one thing (and LC is SUPPOSED to be easier than Schoen, for that matter). That's in a gray area...is it trail sanitizing or not? But making optional lines easier that weren't that hard to begin with? That crosses the line for sure.

It might be helpful to snap a picture of the guy if anyone sees him again. We don't know his motivations for doing what he's doing yet. Maybe a polite chat will help direct him to more appropriate tasks. Maybe not. Maybe he'll need to be reported for vandalizing the trail.

The other issue is where is this guy getting the dirt from? He has to get the dirt from somewhere, if gets it from the wrong spot we can have errosion issues.

Send him down to O'Bannon.

He can repair damage from the horses on the bike trails.

He/She/Ze is digging small holes off to the side of the trail, I've spotted a couple close to some "improvements".

I didn't notice ANY of this "work" today while riding, and I was actively looking for it.  Must've been riding too fast...yeh, I'm going to stick with that!   ;)

I saw some of the spots and the dirt behind the rock.  Leaves are covering a lot of them now.

According to her description, it is the ramp-shaped rock.

You keep saying that about things and so far, meh. My wife was frankly pissed enough about the dirt behind the rock that she contacted me from the trail to ask if I knew about it.
