Fort Harrison Trail Building Updates

As for leaves, I agree it's a lost cause for wholesale leaf blowing this time of year, but think it's a good idea to clear them in trouble spots if they're causing problems.  Huge portions of the trail yesterday had dry and crunchy leaves.  No need removing those at this point.  The trail is well used enough right now to keep the corridor pretty obvious.


I'm not sure the berm for the first bridge really needs to be bigger.  That section is fairly tight and doesn't really encourage high speeds.  I didn't even find myself using the existing berm at all.


Also, I noticed the reroute on Schoen on the first really exposed part of trail for the first time.  You used to make a relatively sharp right turn between the trees.  Now the trail dips down a bit, approaches the trees head on, and has a steep little climb right before them.  What was the logic behind that reroute?  I've never had any trouble there or noticed it as a maintenance problem.

Huf was never happy with that line once we picked counter-clockwise as the riding direction.  Like most sections at Fort Harrison, the original plan was to ride that section the other direction, and that corner was pretty decent as a Left, but not so much as a Right.  He tried adjusting the approach with a berm (the "B" word!), but there really wasn't enough room to make it right.  So we took it down and out, thereby straightening out the approach to the trees.  I think it rides pretty nice.

Don't be surprised if you see more reroutes coming to Ft H soon.  Change is not a bad thing!

I need to get my Rogue Hoe fixed, though.  I broke it at SWW this spring and haven't had a chance to find someone who can weld it back together.

That berms not about high speed, its about water management.   We want rain to go completely into the drain and not on to the bridge.

Geez, what is this, beat up on Huf day? I think I've taken a total of two trees out during the new construction of the Bobcat Bowl. And one of them fell over when I leaned on it because it was completely dead! For the record, I run 740mm and 720mm bars on my mtn bikes. Pretty much standard fair.  Maybe you should try it Fett, you might like it.

Just giving you grief, Huf.  Like my old football coach used to say, "you only need to worry when I quit yelling at you."

Has anyone tried riding the rock-filled drop in the newly opened section on LC?? I'm not complaining at all as my technical skills are not the best so I didn't try and ride it. But it had Endo City written all over it for me. I usually get better in time with these new features but it looked like I might get my wheel wedged in there somewhere and wasn't sure what line I wanted to take. I snapped a pic if anyone wants me to post it. Just wondering if someone was working on it and if that's the final product. Thanks for all the work you guys do.

I rode it a number of times since we opened that section.  It's not the easiest crossing, but it's rideable. It might change at some point, but it is what it is for now.

No problem. I'll get used to it. I've been riding through it recently but the addition of those rocks at the bottom threw me off guard and I was a bit leery. I'm too much of a wuss lately. Crashing hurts a lot more than it used to! (BTW I'm trying to attach a pic but can't figure it out. Is there no "browse" feature so I can find and post pics from my PC?)

Are Wednesdays going to be a regular day for trailwork?? I didn't read any updates until I saw this previous post by Mike only a couple hours before the work was to begin. But by then I was already working at my house brewing beer. Had I known earlier I would have made adjustments to be there. Was there mention of a time beforehand that I missed?? I know sometimes it is weather dependent but if there is a little more notice I would be willing to volunteer more of my time. Even confirmation a day ahead of time would be nice.

We usually try for Wednesdays at 5:30 to 6:00, weather dependent.  Sometimes their might be a Saturday session if there is something that really needs to get done.
