Stolen bike alert! Jamis Dakota D29 Race, Miele hybrid/CX
« on: December 16, 2013, 07:19:15 AM »
Just discovered my garage was raided and among other things, two bikes stolen.  Jamis Dakota D29 Race, raw alloy and white with carbon fiber seatstays, and an Origin 8 carbon rigid fork.  It may have mismatched wheels, rear wheel has Conti X-King tire, front is a Sun Ringle Black Flag Pro with a Schwalbe Rocket Ron.  Niner carbon bar and stem, Thomson seat post.  The Miele was a beater skinny tire bike but very rideable, raw alloy frame with disc rear brake and rim brake front.

Please keep an eye out in pawn shops or Craigslist.  I am so sick to my stomach, I only have my road bike now.

Daggonit man, sorry to hear it!  >:(  >:(  >:(

I have a Craigslist app that allows simultaneous searching of different cities.  It's set up now for a wide dragnet. It's searching 27 cities / areas north, south, east and west of here. Nothing came up aside from two Dakotas that are different colors and look legit (Carbondale, IL and St. Louis). I'll keep checking.

There is probably a good chance it will go to a pawn shop locally.

It's a sick fact, but crime increases around Christmas thanks to scum that steal to give "presents" to friends and family.

Maybe "Wall" would have some suggestions.

File a police report.  By law Pawn shops have to hold items for a certain amount of time.  Can't hurt to file one even if you don't have the serial numbers.
Shin guards! We don't need no stinkin' shin guards!

I've filed a report and already compiled a list of stuff taken, and am awaiting paperwork from my insurance company to complete.  I had no serial numbers, but provided enough detail on the parts (wheels, fork, bar/stem, crankset) on the Jamis that if it turns up, that may be enough to identify it.  I intend to visit as many pawn shops as I can, and make a printout with the parts spec to pass out to the bike shops.
