What happened to Gnawbonelefty
« on: July 24, 2013, 11:32:51 PM »
I just saw that all of Gnawbonelefty's post are saying that he is a guest. Does anyone know what happened?

Short version...he got tired of the "circus that the HMBA has become" and is done with us. Long version...I have no idea.

We have lost a great asset.

Rest assured that you will still see him out on the trail all the time and he will still be fixing and working on the trail at BCSP before anyone even knows there is a problem.

Heh. Every club and forum I've ever been on has had it's politics and issues. I thought this one was pretty friendly and drama-free.

The best thing you can do with BS is cut it out of your life. Rob made a good decision IMO.

Agreed. The moderators have to make sure the site is newbie friendly and not clickish to the point of pushing people away. When I started this site I caught flack from a member. I am still not happy about it.

Please keep in mind that moderating a forum is very difficult.  Individuals who would get along just fine in the real world can say/read into each other's posts and be offended.  As moderators we are criticized when we delete posts and criticized when donít delete posts. It can be a no win situation, which is very frustrating for the volunteers moderating the form.  Please keep the following in mind.
∑         The forum is not linked to HMBA membership.  So just because someone on the forum, says something that offends you, doesnít mean they are speaking for HMBA or even an HMBA member.
∑         The report post function works.  Please use it.  If there is a post that offends you, report the post and our moderators will take a look at it.
∑         If the forum becomes counterproductive to HMBAís advocacy efforts, we will discontinue it.

We have also been chastised for "over moderation", and often get charged with limiting "free speech". Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. That goes for the trail status as well. We're either to fast or too slow to change it. The fact is that there is no way to make everybody happy, so the volunteers who help out here just do the best they can. That's all we can really ask, isn't it?

From all of my years playing with cars, and being a member on countless automotive forums, I can tell you that this forum is by far one of the most grown up, and well handled forums I have ever seen. The bitterness that sometimes seems to happen between members is nothing near anything I have ever seen on the automotive forums. I appreciate this forum, and the systems that are here. Sure they aren't fool proof.... nothing controlled by humans is.

Yes! This is one of the friendliest, best run forums I've ever been a member of.
I've made many friends on here, and bought and sold many parts and have had great experiences on every one.
