Westwood trivia
« on: July 18, 2013, 12:57:19 PM »
Just got back from my first ride at Westwood in quite a while. Bit of funny trivia that popped back into my mind:
Bridge #22 was originally a kitchen sink.
When we started building the trail, materials and labor were scarce. I found an old, white ceramic coated sink about 6' long nearby and placed it in the small ravine to serve as a bridge. I filled it with dirt so that bikes could roll over it. I believe it served many months before being replaced by a proper bridge.

You got my curiosity up... My first time at Westwood was Oct 2004 on my mongoose. Back then there was not a right or wrong way to ride. If you started at the gatehouse and went counter clock wise you rode the bridal trail along the fence till about where the shared trails are now. Floating bridge was at north end and I think the knock out bridge but not many more lots of muddy spots. DINO raced there in 8/19/2006   I did the first triathlon there in 2:23:35 hard to believe its been 7 years ago already. Lots of good improvements over time has been done to the trail
