New (to me, anyway...) frame!
« on: May 23, 2013, 10:18:57 AM »
Been riding a "vintage" 80's Raleigh prestige USA Racing frame for the last 6-7 years or so, been pretty happy with it overall as I just use the road bike for training. I got it all original (even got the original owners manual with it!) from the Bay of Evil for next to nothing (old bikes are like old golf clubs, right?...) with 7 speed downtube and switched it over the Campy 10 speed. The 126 mm rear triangle on mild steel frames is easy to put a 130 mm hub on and you don't even need to cold set it.

But, I've been wanting a slightly larger frame for a while (never should have sold the Fondriest Megachrome I had.. stoopid... stoopid...), and almost bought a couple of Colnagos, etc. on ebay but always managed to go higher than I wanted to pay.

Then I managed to snag a nice Serotta Couer 'd Acier in just my size. Their top of the line steel frame with carbon fiber seat stays and carbon fiber fork for a song on ebay. Moved over the parts this week, have new brakes to put on it tonight, then start logging miles to tweak my position, etc., but tooling around the neighborhood on it it is MUCH more different and better than the old mild raleigh than I thought it would be. Stiff at the bottom bracket like my mid 90's Cannondale was, but has that "steel springy" ride that I love!

The frame really built up well.  I'm sure you're stoked to get the Serotta up and running. Where are you going to put the flames?

Thanks again for the saddle. I'm taking my Proflex out for its maiden voyage today, after a year of neglect.

Sweet ride! I dig the color coordinated tape and bottle cage. I love the ride of a steel frame too - I've had both steel and carbon, but never a combination.
