"Make Schooner Harder" workday Saturday, May 4
« on: April 19, 2013, 10:51:03 AM »
Indiana's newest trail building company Upland Trail Design will be hosting a "Make Schooner Harder" work day on Saturday, May 4 in preparation for the Sub-9 Schooner Shakedown being held in conjunction with the IMBA Great Lakes Regional Summit. We'll be concentrating on adding one or two technical trail features as well as closing down any and all cheater lines that have formed in the last season. Stay tuned for more details!

Glad to see a work day on Schooner.  All in all it is holding very well, but a few spots need some TLC.

FYI "Harold" is Alex Harrington, who did a lot of the work on Green Valley and Schooner.

Last few times out there, I've noticed there are a few sections that are eroding/sliding down the hill, closer to the "HP side" shorter section.
Fat is where it's at!......Tires that is.
Moved to Idaho....:) Now I actually *mountain* bike.

Please don't make those sections any harder!

i hope to make it down there one more time while in hoosierlandia!  can you make that big sweeping left turn over and down the rock/roots ugliness after the HP drop-in (if you enter that way) and warm-up rock cruise anymore difficult?!?!  if i could only clean that thing...

who has done it and how?

Good luck with the trail building company Alex H....I believe he ran the machine for the Shadow Run and other small trail sections at Versailles State Park.

I hiked from the Hoosier Nest on Schooner last weekend. Awesome trail.

There are a number of trees down and the ravines need some work after the heavy rains.  One ravine had the correct line covered in leaves and block by a small tree.  Almost tempted us to take what looked like the line, but what was really a 3' deep ravine full of leaves.

But as always it was an awesome trail with lots of water at the water fall.

Rode it today. I can't imagine needing to make the trail harder than it is rite now, especially after the rain washouts!  I must have found the spot Paul referenced above. I stuffed the front tire and over I went.

I took an inventory of Schooner's technical trail features and there are quite a few that need "enhancement". So if you've ever wanted to hike Schooner with a rhino and a rock bar this is your opportunity.

Don't forget to come out for this weekend's Schooner work day!

When: Saturday, May 4 at 10am
 Where: Walnut Shelter
What to bring: work gloves and, if you have one, a rock bar
What to expect: We'll work on enhancing Schooner's technical trail features and other minor repairs. After work refreshments will be provided.

Great work day yesterday! We were able to enhance most of Schooner's technical trail features and make a few other repairs too. Thanks to everyone who came out and thanks to HMBA for providing the after work refreshments.
