Warm up tips

Hey guys,
 
I have found that warming up before I ride does wonder for my body.  I try to raise my heart rate and breathing then rest before I ride. I have found some of the guys I ride with are faster than me starting out, but after our first lap I can keep up with them. I would like some input on some tips or tricks anyone may have regarding "warming up". How much is too much? not enough? What do you guys do too warm up?

My one warm-up tip is to use your warm-up time as a chance to practice skills.  I do a few practice corners, wheelies, manuals, attempt a brake stand, etc as part of my routine.  I think of it as killing 2 birds with one stone.


I'm less helpful on length and intensity.  For running I've found about 5-6 minutes at a pace 2-4 minutes/mile slower than I plan to run (which results in a HR around 120 at the end of the warm-up) works really well for me.  I haven't ever been as scientific on the mountain bike.  Mostly because I'm usually thinking more about balance, technique, and fun than max speed and efficiency.
