There are many tough road bike hills in Southern Indiana....   Here's a nice link from Southern Indiana Wheelmen.   http://www.siwheelmen.org/hills.htm

Enjoy!

I have no idea, but Hyw 421 going north from downtown Madison has ~400ft elevation change over ~2.5 miles (according to google Earth).

Cold Friday Rd has a total of  500+ ft of elevation.  It is harder though, because you climb 400, descend 300 , then climb another 400+ft.

The top of Cold Friday is in O'Bannon Woods State Park.  It has broken me on a mountain bike.

technically the low point in the state is 350ft  at the confluence of the ohio and wabash,  and the high point is 1120ft in a farm field north of richmond.  So at most you have

770ft max.

Brown County  is at 600ft elevation at the creek, under the covered bridge and 1058 at the top of weedpatch hill. so 458 possible.

at O'Banon the river is at 400ft and the high point is greenbriar knob at 822. with lots of other stuff close.

400ft is about what you can expect along the ohio or in indiana.

For my money on a ride-able trail the toughest is trail 11 in hickory,  or the north face trail in gnawbone camp
on a gravel road?  east rogers road in belmont  is the toughest I've found.

Has anyone ridden painted hills' rembrandt road in martinsville? I am there for work on occasion and it feels like you are climbing a roller coaster, and thats in a truck. I just wonder what the grade is?  Not super long, but of all the places I've been in southern In. It seems like the steepest by far.

I can second that this road is brutal.

Youngs Creek has some fairly long, big climbs.

You could always climb the entrance road to Clifty Falls State Park. That would um..... fun. Not sure it is as long as you are looking for, but I don't think you would want it any longer.

I have ridden it. It was absolutely everything that I could do to turn over the pedals when I got near the top. It is the steepest road climb I have ridden in Indiana, possibly except for a smaller climb in some subdivision southwest of Indy, I cannot remember the name.

My favorite is Skyline Drive in Jackson-Washington State forest, south of Brownstown. Enter from the East off of SR250.  It is the steepest road I have ridden, but I am not sure of the total elevation gain.

Bear Wallow is probably the longest/toughest I've done in Indiana.  First time I did it was shortly after I switched to a compact crank, and I did walk a short way (one of the few times EVER!  8) ) but have conquered it every time since.

I'm intrigued by all these other climbs!!

I know the steepest has to be off in the subdivision near Scribner middle school in new Albany.  It's measured 29-30% on my garmin
2007 Giant TCX- SRAM Red mix
Leader hardtail

just drove a gravel road south of corydon between 135 and 111 on my way to new albany, called mosquito creek road...drove it from west to east, and the downhill on that west side is the steepest thing i've seen in a while...the east side wasn't as bad but both were still very impressive...i'ma take the mtb out there soon and try to ride them...
