Trail Work Day Sunday 12/9 at New Trail at Columbus Youth Camp
« on: November 30, 2012, 03:09:08 PM »
Matt Battin is leading the first trail work day at Columbus Youth Camp on Sunday 12/2 from 10-12ish. The address is 12454 West Youth Camp Road  Columbus, IN 47201.

This should be a great new trail as Columbus Youth Camp has some hilly terrain very similiar to BCSP and Ganw Bone Camp.  It is located 3-4 miles west of Columbus.  In talking to Matt, it can support about a 8-10 mile trail system. It will incorporating some existing trail that is already in place along with new, so there is a head start in getting it going.

This has been planned for a while and now is ready to move some dirt.  Come on out if you can.

We had a great trail session on Sunday. We had 15 people out and made a ton of progress with the initial rough in of the trail.  It is going to be a great trail and rideable from Columbus.

Dan,
Another workday is being planned for this Sunday.  Here are the details from Matt:
We had a fantastic trail work day last Sunday at Youth Camp!  Thanks to everyone who came out!  It is looking amazing!  We would like to have another trail work day again this Sunday December 9th from 9am to 5pm.  If you are available part of the day, say from 9-1 or 1-5 that would be great also.  I know we all have busy schedules!

Bring gloves, a water bottle or hydration pack (water is available at parking area), snacks,  sturdy rakes and Rhinos trail building hoes.  Please brand your tools so we don't get them mixed up.

The meeting place is the outbuilding east of the main camp house.  It is on the RIGHT if you are traveling west on Youth Camp road.  The Bicycle Station will provide a chili lunch for those working all day.

There was another great turnout on Sunday as there were about 15 people again working on the trail throughout the day.  At this point there is a 4.5 mile loop roughed in and is rideable, but still needs alot of work as far as benching on hillside trail to be sustainable for the long term, but an amazing start to getting another trail on the ground.
