Breakdown Thank You!
« on: October 16, 2012, 12:16:17 PM »
There are only two words worthy of describing this weekend......  YEE HAW!!!!!

What an amazing time had by all at the 8th Annual Brown County Breakdown.  The weather held off just enough for folks to have a fantastic day riding in the woods.  Sure they had to duck a few falling trees here and there, but overall we could not have asked for a better time!  We are still digging through the leftover piles from this weekend and we will be sure to let everyone know the final totals soon.  In the mean time, however, we want to be sure and thank everyone for helping make it happen!

First and fore most, we want to thank our volunteers... what an AMAZING CREW!  Over 50 volunteers signed up to help throughout the weekend and we know we could not pull off an event of this nature without them.  A huge thanks to everyone who had a part in making the 8th Annual Brown County Breakdown such a success.  It takes an army of folks to mark and de-mark the course, setup and tear down the event, check riders in and out at registration, run the sag stops (including cooking hot off the grill burgers and brats!), pick up trash, park the cars, chase my 3 year old.... you name it!  There is not enough thanks to give these folks who continue to step up year after year.

Another big thanks goes out all our sponsors who came out to support the event.  Every year our sponsors help take the entire event up a notch and this year did not disappoint!  Another massive thank you goes out to all those involved:

We also want to make sure and thank More East Design for creating another fantastic logo for the 8th annual event as well as Two Pedals Photography for capturing the spirit and fun of the weekend in photos!  Pictures will be available for viewing and purchasing in just a few weeks.  You can also order your 2012 Breakdown souvenir book once it's posted on the Two Pedals website - www.2pedalsphotography.com

We also want to be sure and mention all the great bands.  From the very beginning it has always been our hope that the Breakdown would be a combination of mountain bike ride and bluegrass festival and this year we really saw this dream come to life!  This year we offered seven bands throughout the event and every one was fantastic.  A huge thank you to the Whipstitch Sallies, Chicago Farmer, Hocking River String Band, New Old Cavalry, Flatland Harmony Experiment, White Lightning Boys, Indiana Boys and Blacklight Entertainments for making the music stage happen.  We also want to thank all the wonderful musicians spread throughout the trail and at the "hidden cabin" for braving the morning elements to pick 'n play for everyone.  Thanks to Weed Patch Music for once again finding our trail side and cabin musicians!

We'll have a full recap coming soon, but please feel free to post your stories and pictures from the weekend.  We want to see all those smiling faces and hear about your adventures at the 8th Annual Brown County Breakdown!

Don't forget to mark your calendars now for September 27-29, 2013 for the 9th annual event!

Cheers,

I want to echo HMBA's appreciation for all our volunteers and sponsors.
I also want to thank Tania and Jonathan at Sub 9.  They rallied to rethink the route in just the last couple weeks and delivered the best Breakdown yet.  Despite this being HMBA’s biggest fund raiser, I was able to go to the IMBA world summit last week without a doubt that they had things under control.
I also want to thank Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources.  The Breakdown Starts in Brown County State Park, and State Parks has been a great partner for many years with this event.  This year, Indiana’s State Forests stepped in at the last minute to allow us to use trails and fire roads in Yellowwood State Forest.

And finally, the connection to Yellowwood required the support of the Indiana Trail Riders Association.  The Breakdown can only take place thanks to them supporting our use of their horse trails for the day of the event.

I just want to offer my thanks to everyone as well!  This was my first Breakdown, as well as my first big ride of any kind, and I had a blast!  Can't wait until next year and that 100 mile goal!  Thanks again!  ;D

Wow! Pine Loop and Limekiln were made for Mountain Unicycling! Rarely can I say I was able to ride 90% or a trail and only had to hike 10%. The North Tower Connector trail got a little to hairy and I'm glad I took the advice of one of my KYMBA buddies to turn around where I did. I wanted to say thank you to all the riders who granted me the occasional right of way on the trail. For future reference, it is usually not necessary as I don't have wide handlebars to maneuver around. I understand that I can be quite a bit slower than most of you guys but I don't mind to move over (or stop when necessary) to let you guys pass. I've always found most mountain bike riders to be curious, courteous, and encouraging. BCSP was no exception. I will no doubt be back to ride the breakdown next year and I'm already working on talking a couple of Louisville unicyclists into joining me. What a great weekend! The people, the trails, the music. I loved it all.

Next time you come up, find padawan on the unicyclists form.  I've seen him out on schooner trace before,  that's pretty hardcore!

Well folks... it's official.  WE DID IT!

For the second year in a row the Brown County Breakdown has raised over $20,000 for the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association!  That puts us well over $90,000 since it's 2005 inception!

While the weather kept some folks home, over 475 riders still took part in the 8th annual event and still raised a huge amount of money to support the HMBA.  Congrats and thank you to everyone who contributed!

A full recap is coming soon!
