I am at O'Bannon tonight, and looking to ride part of the at tomorrow.  I would be able to ride around 11:00AM.  Post up if you meet at fire tower.  I should have a good trail report.

well, i answered my own question...went and did the southeast portion of the aht...parked at the river and did the road back up to the trail, went counter clockwise toward cold friday road and then on around to old forest road...while the trail itself is a backcountry blast, i would never suggest doing it this time of year...there were at least two areas with multiple downed trees where the undergrowth has taken over...i am nothing but thorn scratches, chiggers, and poison ivy from the waist down...in addition to that the deer ticks were horrible...i thought i had gotten them all but the morning after i found 3 hangin on and gettin fat...my advice would be to leave the aht alone til winter...

I have picked up a tip from the park staff and spend 20 minutes in the Park's Pool after being in the woods.  The Chlorine kills the ticks.

My helmet is off to you guys willing to ride the AHT.  I just spent the weekend backpacking the trail in it's entirety, thinking about riding it.  I couldn't imagine riding large portions because I could barely find the trail markers for the leaves! My dog got pretty good at following previous hikers scent, so I trusted her after a while.  Between the greenbriars, raspberry bushes, tall grass, downed trees, and loose rocks on the ascents and descents, this seems to be much better suited to hiking than biking for me.  The shelters/cabins reminded me of the AT, and I will be back with friends to hike at least portions again.
15 years of mountain biking fun and counting!
