An old friend
« on: July 28, 2012, 12:33:38 PM »
Took a day off from work and decided to give Westwood a visit.  I honestly can't remember if I rode Westwood last summer.  It doesn't get the attention other trails seem to get in the Metro area.

There was one rider just finishing when I arrived which left me to the trail alone.  As I started out there were a smattering of fishermen on the lake, the sky was clear and the lake a beautiful blue.  I was remembering when we first started out at Westwood.  It was an out and back.  I did some volunteer trail work in the early stages, helping build the floating bridge which got us so excited about now being able to see a complete loop in the future.

As I was nearing the end a crossed a bridge labled 24!  Man that is a lot of bridges.  I remember when there was 1.

I remember now why I like Westwood so much.  It is a really beautiful ride.  Sure it costs $4.50 to get in with your bike but the value compaired to a cup of Starbucks coffee is a no brainer.

If you haven't been out to Westwood lately you owe yourself a visit to this old friend.

Happy trails.

I totally agree with visiting WW again.  There were some bad posts about the condition of the 10 mile loop earlier this year, but it is very ridable now.  A friend and I made the drive, from the east side of Indy, out to the park today.  There were only 2 other cars, riders out, and the woods seemed to hold some of the cool morning air well into the afternoon.  Expect lots of exposed roots and gravel in lots of the turns.  Can you commit to more than one loop at a time?

If you wait for good weather to ride in Indiana you will be waiting forever.

The reroutes done by Huff and others this winter have made this special trail even better. Make sure that you turn a few laps sthere this year.

I rode WW tonight and the new routes are great. I did miss the one sharp little hill climb around mile 6 but the overall trail is a better ride. The first ride of the summer at WW is always a killer for me. Love WW!,
