Fort Harrison State Park / Ft. Ben Weed eating
« on: June 05, 2015, 03:09:35 PM »
Two main areas need some attention right now as far as the weeds go.
Schoen in the open field area
Camp Glen trail first part and the last part.

Be sure to where pants and a long sleeve shirt as there is poison ivy in a lot, if not most of the areas.
I would also wear some kind of face guard like a chainsaw helmet and ear protection.

When you do trim the weeds back please:
1) Cut back at ground level at least one to two feet away from the trail and then angle up to take the tops off the weeds after that.  This way they won't fall over into the trail.
2) Bring a rake and remove the cut weeds from the trail.  This not only makes it look better but will also help keep the trail dry when it rains.

If someone has a map that can post it here with areas circled please do so.

I have next week off so I am planning on taking at least one day and weed eating as much as I can.

Fort Harrison State Park / Horses on the MTB trail.
« on: May 28, 2015, 06:16:40 PM »
There were horses on the LC trail possibly before but definitely after the fire road by the sledding hill.  Talked to the entrance attendant and she said they tracked them down, detained, and fined them for illegally entering the park and for also being on the trail.

Just wanted to let people know if they wonder about the hoof prints and trail damage.

For those of us that have the ability to change the status lights, what is the new login procedure to do that?
I had the ability, but no longer have it due to changes in the way we sign in.
If the web admin could PM me with the new procedure I would appreciate it.

Southwestway Park / Access Roads....
« on: May 03, 2015, 05:25:15 PM »
First time riding SWW since the new trails opened up going south.  They end at a dirt access road.  Are those roads ok to ride on or ????
We talked to some runners that were coming out of that area but they weren't sure so we turned around.
Any future trails planned for that area?

Rants and Raves / Skyline at Snowshoe
« on: September 02, 2014, 07:38:40 PM »
Now this is what I call a flow trail/jump trail.  This is the new trail at Snowshoe, WV that I rode this past Labor Day weekend.  You can ride this trail with almost no brakes except at some of the switchbacks.
Need one like this at BCSP.

Tech Bench / Freehub Sticky.....Fixed
« on: September 23, 2013, 07:33:43 PM »
So I have ventured, once again, into undiscovered territory and "fixed" my freehub.  I noticed at the HOE - Hoosier Outdoor Experience, that I was getting slack in the top of my chain when I back pedaled.  Figured out it was the freehub sticking and not the tension on the derailleur.  So I ventured off to the bike shop to get the wrench to take the axle out.....blah blah blah....man are those bearings touchy.  In the end wasn't that hard of a job.  Just have to take your time and pay attention to what goes where when you disassemble so you can get it back together without having too many "How the heck did this go!" moments.
Anyway....got it fixed enough that I don't lose tension and will be good to go for the Breakdown.

Point of the post.....Sometimes it good to get out of your comfort zone and try something new.  I have saved myself about $250 bucks this year doing stuff on my own.
