I've been wondering the same, I never seem to get accurate distance with a cycle computer, compared to posted trail lengths.  To actually check accuracy I'm going to have to ride from one mile marker sign to another

General Trail Information / Re: River's Edge Trail?... extinct?

I saw an very outdated guide on BGI's site to some kind of trail system, but the pictures show the old building from the 2000's and a very different looking and longer Town Run... closer to what I remember from being a kid riding it with my dad at the very end of the 90's

Is is legal to explore there?  GIS shows the same company owns it as owns the BGI property.

General Trail Information / River's Edge Trail?... extinct?

A trail called Rivers Edge Trail shows up on hiking and mountain bike trail websites and searches ... but nothing on here.

Also, I cannot find a map of the actual trail, only that it is 8 miles long and near 86th and Allisonville.

Is this trail extinct?

Last ride (week ago) I found a 2 inch deep saucer sized hole in the trail right after the 3 way intersection at start of Schoen (enter, exit, trail head).   I stopped and laid the bike down and went hunting.  I could not find the rock but I found a similar 5 x 7 x 4h inch rock in a weed patch and filled the hole.

Fort Harrison State Park / Rude road biker
« on: September 24, 2015, 09:46:59 PM »
I had an encounter with a roadie today.  I decided after a ride on Schone Creek to ride over to the lake and explore a bit of pavement. I rode up the road in the bike lane and with a 30+ lb low geared bike, a full pack of trail gear, and a freshly full hydro bladder, I was a slow moving target...

Just after the split with Camp Creek Trail, at the crest of the first hill there were two walkers walking side by side in the middle of the road.  I waited for them to move to their marked walking lane. They did not, they instead began to drift further into the bike lane. The paint was worn so they may have not realized what they were doing.  I steered left to the edge of the path and I was about to say something when the roadie came on the scene.

From about 100 ft back he yelled "You!  Get over!  Over there."

Startled, I looked back and saw he was pointing to my right, so I assumed he was calling to me... Nope he was yelling ahead at the walkers.  They scurried over to "their" side and he turned his attention to me.  I had drifted over to the right side of the lane as a result of turning my head and so he could pass on the left while staying in the bike lane. In seconds he was on me.  He starter yelling "on your right"  so I started drifting left to give him room... I mist have violated a roadie rule because he lit into me.  "Stay where you are!" "On your Right!".

He charged ahead and picked up speed as it leveled off and he was gone, but I could still hear him when he got to the guy that was ahead of me.

This guy's giving us bikers a bad image and its not our fault.  I've had nothing but good meetings with hikers in nearly a dozen visits and rides covering at least 45 miles of trail at Ft Ben.  From what I've read here and seen at events, this group has fought hard to be accepted at Ft Ben.  But the public won't care which type of bike the rude guy was riding.

River Road Park:

It needs work.  First there is a tree down across the lower leg... Still.  It is not bike crossable and looks to have been there a long time.

As a "gateway" trail for pure beginners, it is in need of some attention one spot in particular where a well used access to the water crosses both trail legs the ground is so worn, the path ledge is gone and it is so steep and covered with the loose gravel that it is nearly impossible to ride across without losing your back tire.

I had to stop to right myself more times on that tiny little trail than I've ever had to do at Fort Ben or even the whole of Town Run.

Fort Harrison State Park / Old foundations on Schoen Creek trail

About 2/3 through Schoen Creek you ride through an old foundation of one or two buildings seemingly in the middle of the woods... What were they?

:'(Is it a bring your own bike event?

Will the Lawrence Creek and Schoen Creek trails be open?

Yes, my wife and I like to ride real mountain bike trails, but we also like to just ride slowly and talk and enjoy the scenery.  What bike friendly trails/paths/parks that aren't full-blown mountain bike trails are there in central Indiana?
