Tech Bench / Re: Tubeless and Air Compressors

A minor update to this thread. Don't use power washers on a mtn bike.

May be old news for some but I realized at my last race at Versailles after I flatted (again) the tire had water where the stan's fluid was.
Appears as though power washing your tires/wheels forces water inside, causing the Stan's clotting process to fail.

Lesson learned. (The hard way)

This is good stuff, thanks.

I'm sure the bleeding thing will work, was trying to avoid that though.

As for the crank, I've tried the wavy plus the bearing seal on the drive side, still binds.
Tried varying sets of those plus a spacer, always binds.
It's a brand new press-fit SRAM bottom bracket so this is puzzling.

It's part of this new 2015 Kona Hei Hei Supreme frame I found but brakes and cranks are the last barrier to riding it. (Which is killing me)

Thanks for the responses.

I tried pressing the calipers back into the housing, they didn't seem to budge.
May have to bleed them a bit to get them back.
Unfortunately the adjuster for that didn't help.

Fett, on the wavy washer, no it's not in there.
Does it go on the drive side?

Thanks
Greg

Tech Bench / Brakes vs New Pads

Howdy,
I want to install new pads on my SRAM XO brakes but the cylinder won't push back out of the way to insert the new pads.

I dialed back the adjuster which should have permitted space for the new pads but no luck.

Any ideas?

Also,
When I tighten my sram cranks down, they bind up and I can feel resistance. If I loosen them a bit, it's better but obviously can't ride like that. Any thoughts? I've tried removing all spacers, no luck. Also, there's no grinding sound.

I'm transferring my parts to a lovely new Kona hei hei Supreme frame and haven't dealt with these issues in 18 months.

Thanks for your time.

What's the word on more trails at FT Ben?

Looks like a lot of empty land up the hill from Lawrence Creek

Any report on trail conditions? Dry by Saturday's DINO?
Never been there. What's the trail like?

Thanks

Rangeline Nature Preserve / Rode Rangeline today, epic trail

Road Rangeline today, epic trail.
Very challenging and technical.

No wet spots except for the creek crossing. (Which was nicely brick armored. Kudos)

Did 3 laps with a buddy and the trail is in perfect conditions as of 4PM EST 1 April.

Good idea.
Didn't know such a think existed.

I did find a little compressor at the pawn shop for $50, about the same size.
Provides a good blast of air for that initial bump to seal the beads.

Thanks

Brown County State Park / Re: North tower loop mileage

There's a nice strava segment for North Tower Loop that reports 4.2 miles.

http://www.strava.com/segments/2054549

That is a really fun circuit.

I switched from Spinergy wheels to Stan's Notube Arch 29er rims and all I can say is wow!

Night and day for mounting and sealing tires.

I log on to the forum with a username but I have to use an email address in tapatalk.
Do people log on to the forum with an email address?
Seems a moot point long about now lol

Tapatalk allows people to log on with the same name / pass as we do in the forum.

One less login name I have to remember.

Can whoever manages the tapatalk plug in configure it to permit regular logons?

Right now the only two options are facebook logon or logon with an email address.

General Trail Information / Re: We are visiting brown county

You can stay on Brown County park in either the main lodge or in "Rustic Cabins" which are only a minute or two from the trail heads:

Reservations here:
http://www.browncountystatepark.net/cabins/

At the gate they hand out park maps which have maps of the bike trails which will show you around.
Or:
If you have a bike navigation device you could import this GPX as a route to your device and follow it:
http://madlinux.com/DINO/BCSP-DINO-circuit-2014.gpx
It's the circuit we did for Brown County races this year.

Someone at a DINO race event mentioned that he first installs a new tire with a tube on the rim and inflates it to sit for a few days.
This might fit the tire to the tire on the rim and make the transition to tubeless easier b/c the tire is formed to the wheel.
Makes, sense. Haven't tried it though.

Also, i find it useful to, instead of soapy water, try a paintbrush and stan's liquid as a lube during inflation.
It's pretty slippery stuff and helps it fit into place.

Loving tubeless though.
Very light but  so far not so reliable. (Like at  Muscatatuck and SWW where I flatted at DINO #4 and #7.)
