Made me laugh :)

Yeah, it was good for a chuckle. The staying up late and watching mountain bike videos on Youtube is spot on!

Ignore all those on here saying you should hammer with the roadies. Forget it. Follow this advice and next thing you know you will shaving all of your glorious body hair, running over hapless hikers walking their dogs in an effort to gain elusive Strava bragging rights, and weighing your gluten-free organic cereal. Be a real mountain biker; eat a huge steak the night before a race and wash it down with the craft beer of your choice and then stay up too late watching mtb videos on YouTube in your underwear while looking at bikes you can't afford in a second tab. Or better yet, don't race at all and just enjoy riding the snot out of your bike without the pressure of trying to best other strangers you don't know so you can (maybe one day) stand on a spray painted wooden podium that looks like it was purchased from some summer sports camp like the ones parents send their kids to so they can have a week of peace and quiet.

I hope this helps with your race preparation. Good luck to you!  :o

Well...that was constructive.

Training suggestions above are good, especially the riding with people faster than you. Not only will you have to push yourself to keep up, but you can also watch the cornering technique and lines the faster riders are using when you are on the trail.

As for the week before...I usually ride/run the same amount I normally do, but will take it really easy the day before the race. I drink more water in the few days leading up to the event, and try to cut back to one package of Blueberry Oreos.

Didn't notice a bike with him. In hindsight, maybe he was trying to steal the rocks they have blocking that entrance? The tailgate of the truck was down and as I came around the corner he was kneeling down near one of the rocks before he looked up and saw me riding towards him.

Who knows...

Lawrence Creek was quite snotty today. Not leaving ruts, but greasy on top and my low profile tires were sliding around. Schoen was very good.

Anyone have any runs ins with an older gentleman (white hair and mustache) driving a maroon S-10/Sonoma pick up around Ft. Ben? He was blocking the pedestrian entrance today and as I rode by in the grass he had some words for me, and when I stopped (I didn't hear him at first) to ask what he had said, he got flustered and mumbled something about how I rode by too close to him, even though he saw me coming down the road and I was several feet away from his truck and him. Overall, a very perplexing encounter.

Geoff,

I double checked and I was wrong about the size. It is a L. It is a 20 inch, and the aluminum Sette Razzo frames came in sizes 16, 18, 20, and 22. I checked the order confirmation e-mail from when I bought this back in 2013 and it is a 20 inch, which is a large. Let me know if you would like to take a look. The chainring on the frame is the same one which was on the Monocog I bought from you!

Ed

That Sette is a great frame for the money. I had one for several years. If yours was a L instead of an XL I would have bought it already.

Rants and Raves / Re: Bicycle Travel Case needed
« on: September 09, 2015, 04:45:56 PM »
I used a soft sided case (similar to an EVOC) to fly with my single speed hardtail 29er to San Francisco last year. Bike was in fine shape and the bag was fairly easy to carry around. No extra fees either, since the bag  contained "convention display materials." Woman at the airline desk in Indy didn't believe me but didn't push the issue. Guy in San Fran on the way home could not have cared less what was in there.
