Just took the time to watch your video, RNP.  Nicely done, looks like a nice trip indeed!

Awesome - he made that look like a ton of fun (assuming you have an appropriate set of skills that is - which I don't!  :'( )

Probably a dumb question, but I've only made it past the cabin once.  That was two years ago, the first year we had trails in Yellowood.  Unfortunately, I broke 4 spokes in my rear wheel just before the hamburger sag and had to call it a day.  Short version - very little experience past the cabin.

Anyway, I'm planning to attempt 75 miles this year.  Does this news mean we won't be in Yelllowood, or is this "in addition to"?

HMBA Website Suggestions, Comments, etc. / Re: Trail status lights time
« on: September 06, 2014, 02:36:52 PM »
I updated Fort Ben at 6:34 PM on Thursday.  When I hovered over the light it said updated at 10:34 PM.  Time is off on server.

Any chance of getting this fixed?  It's currently 2:36pm EDT and the status button for Fort Harrison says it was updated at 5:07pm EDT (today).  Thanks!

Membership / Re: HMBA-IMBA Membership Questions (if there are any)
« on: August 02, 2014, 05:27:30 PM »
Thanks for the input, guys.  Since email notification seems to be working for some, I logged back onto my IMBA account to look a little closer at my preferences.  There is one more radio button that says "Solicit for Membership" that I had set to "No" since I had no idea what they meant by that.  I went ahead and set it to "Yes" and will see if that works.  If it actually works, it seems kind of redundant to have both a "Send Renewals" and a "Solicit for Membership" option...

Membership / Re: HMBA-IMBA Membership Questions (if there are any)

Is there a trick to getting notices of IMBA membership expiring?  This is the second year in a row that my membership expired without an email notice (and yes, I always check my spam folder on that email account).  The first time, I didn't notice for over six months - this one just expired on Tuesday, but it's only dumb luck and random clicking that made me notice so timely this time.

I guess I'm just spoiled by all the organizations that irritate the snot out of me when my dues are coming due.  :)

Edit:  I just logged into my IMBA account, and under my preferences, "Do not Email" is NOT checked and "Send Renewals" is set to "Yes".  I'm also not clear on where to go on the IMBA site to see what my membership expiry date is...

Very cool!

Couldn't agree more!  :)
Valerie is now in the Top 18 - hoping for Top 16 after tonight's show.  My wife and daughter flew out to LA yesterday to watch Valerie on the show live tonight.  They'll likely get a few seconds of screen time on live national TV...  :P

Rants and Raves / Totally OT - Drumming Up Support for Local Talent
« on: July 05, 2014, 12:19:45 PM »
Okay, this is a bit of a shameless plug, but it's worth a try to drum up more support for this amazing young local talent...

My daughter has learned and subsequently taught dance at a local Indianapolis dance school for the last 13 years. The network of dancers and their families associated with this school have become pretty close over the years resulting in many lasting friendships.

One of the dancers - Valerie Rockey - reached college age and went to IU for a year or so, but then decided to head to LA last fall to try to further her dance career. Recently, she auditioned for the new season of "So You Think You Can Dance!":

She ended up with a "ticket" for Hollywood Week (where they whittle it down to just 20 contestants).

On last week's show (6/25/2014), the show pruned it down from 150 dancers with tickets to just 20 (10 guys, 10 gals) who will be contestants on this year's show. Valerie made it!

On this past Wednesday's show (7/2/2014), Valerie (& Zack) did a tap number that was simply remarkable:

Here's a cute little 1-min video from the show featuring Valerie:

Valerie and her family are good people. I've known her since she was about 6 years old and have watched her get better and better over the years. On the show, she's so unique, talented and her enthusiasm is so contagious. Please give her a shot and see if you agree... :)

You can follow Valerie's SYTYCD arc on Facebook (I know, I know) here:

Valerie is really representing Indy well, please check it out and send your votes her way!  The show airs on Wednesdays at 8E/7C with voting open from the show's conclusion until 10am (E?) the next day.

Yikes!  Agree with Ric - would be terrified, but fun to watch others tearin' it up!  The song in the video was quite apropos; made me feel like a wimp...  :P

What kind of monster do you have to be to complain about Green Valley?

Touché, good sir!   8) ;D

Newbies Corner / Re: Staying warm in the fall and winter riding seasons?

What are the most beneficial items that you would alll recommend adding to my fall/winter clothing collection first?

If you haven't seen it already, there are a lot of ideas being generated in this current thread:

Had a lot of fun at this event - thanks to Mr. Steve King for badgering me (irl) into doing it...  :)

Brown County State Park / Re: Report Trail Issues
« on: September 05, 2013, 06:57:34 AM »
Has anyone been able to figure out how to report trail issues with the iPhone version of Maprika?  I tried the "set up a meeting" technique (discussed earlier in this thread) with my riding buddy who also has an iPhone, but he never received the meeting notice.

I have a strong feeling after spending some time with Steve King and his Droid that the Maprika developers have a strong Droid bias!  There are several missing features on the Apple version, and it just has a general bugginess to it.

Don't get me wrong, the app has got great potential, but the iPhone version is lagging the Droid version atm.  Since the iPhone is my work-issued (i.e. FREE!) phone, switching to a Droid isn't really in the cards for me.

HMBA Forum News and Information / Re: Forum Issues
« on: September 04, 2013, 03:24:13 PM »
I understand both sides of the issue, and I do not pretend to have a snappy, fix-all answer.  These are just a couple of thoughts that occurred to me as I perused this thread over the last couple days...

I don't know if it's technically possible (I'd be shocked if it's not), but rather than a direct link to the forum, perhaps that link takes you to a page with a big disclaimer clearly indicating that all posts in the forum are solely the opinions of the posters and not of the HMBA.  The page would require an "I understand and agree" click before allowing forum access.  I personally would not mind the extra click each time I visit, and it seems it would settle any concern of forum posts being misinterpreted as HMBA positions or statements.

Another alternative would be to close down the "official" HMBA.org forums and start another, unofficial Indiana mountain biking forum that just happens to love the HMBA and discusses it frequently while pointing new forum users over to the official HMBA.org site for current news, membership, and advocacy information.  There are probably free options available, but to do it right, we'd probably want some server space, some forum software and some administrators.

If the second alternative were to occur, I would recommend a general sprucing up of the HMBA.org home page as it is currently a bit of a mess (just an opinion, not trying to hurt anyone's feelings).
