Brown County State Park / Re: Personal music devices on trails??
« on: April 22, 2019, 10:25:24 PM »
Am I a crotchety old bastard that begrudgingly moved to bigger wheels, doesn't ride 4' wide bars and still wears lycra? Yes.
But what's with people using bluetooth speakers on the trials? Its crazy to me that people blast music on MTB trails. Late last season we were riding one evening and saw, I think, 13 or so people and counted 8 of them with bluetooth speakers broadcasting music. I've already started seeing (hearing...) them this year.
Is this the new normal? Am I the only one bothered by this?
If you have a bell, just start ringing it when near them... I don't get these people.  I sat in the airport beside a lady blasting her videos out loud.  So I whipped out my phone and tablet and cranked them all the way up and started streaming the same channel :D  I won because she quickly left, obviously I turned my music off right away.  I got a couple laughs and thank yous to boot!

Cool, thanks!  Entered, not sure I'd survive 7 straight days, but winning a trip is probably the only way I'll every get to MTB further than I can drive in a day.

There's a tree down at the beginning of LC probably less than quarter mile.

Just saw this sorry been out of town.  I'm in Carmel near Westfield.  But if trails are good I'd be happy to meet at Town Run(weekday/end) or Ft. Ben (Weekend only)

Free to anyone who can use it. I had To Notch out with a Dremel so my disc brake bike would fit, which works perfectly.

HA, glad I saw this.  I just assumed they were broken.  Found info I needed (unfortunately everything I'm close to is "Bad - Closed" )

Buy, Sell, Trade / Thule 2 bike rack / 2 misc bikes
« on: July 16, 2016, 01:57:04 PM »
I'm just trying to clean up the garage and getting rid of my old bike rack.  It was designed for bikes with rim brakes but I have modified it to work with my bike which has disc brakes (should work with any disk brake bike.  2" receiver needed though.   Asking $40 but very flexible, especially if a new rider needs a rack.

Also 2 older bikes one is a 20" single speed with coaster brakes and front rim brake.  2nd is a 1980's 10 speed.  Make me an offer...

You could always say "I'm just riding the roads"    But I always just flash both at the same time so not sure if they would ask if I didn't.

Town Run / Re: closed lid trash can
« on: June 12, 2016, 01:54:13 AM »
Yup agree, I saw a raccoon in the trash can as I was leaving tonight. I drove up and blew my horn at him a few times to scare him away.  Also the trash can was overflowing and there was trash on the ground.  I'll bring a trash bag with me next time to pickup overflow if it's there, I'd recommend anyone else who can to do the same.

I also like to make sure that I am riding fast enough to never get passed when I am wearing ear buds.  haha

So, dumb question here, how much will it cost to enter Sunday for the DINO race?  Sounds like way more than the $7 for a one time ride?  I don't make it down enough right now with little ones for a year pass so is there an extra daily fee?

$5 for a Daily pass.  And I'm pretty sure they are needed for the race, couldn't find the thread but thought I read that somewhere.  $20/yr  or $5/day

Being an airport is there some surveillance coverage where the bikes are to be locked up?  Is there anyway to get the bike inside your car with the wheels off?  Or even frame in car, bring wheels into hangar with you?  At the end of the day the main factors are how secure do you feel the rack makes you and are you in a place where replacing the bike if stolen is an option?

PS.  I looked up bike locker and if it's the little mini garage thing, I'd be really surprised to see them pony up for that type of bike storage. or are you talking more like this

Yes, I understand this possibility, however it's pretty unlikely in 3 hours' time, which I immediately tried to replace it then, rather than later.
I understand the logic here.  But also think the reverse if you wanted to get a buy one get one by cheating saying you lost your card on your ride is the perfect time to do it.  I'd grab a saddle bag for like $10-15 and throw the card in there to ensure it doesn't get lost.  I keep mine in my hydration pack.

Worse than that, I've been told we are an expense due to the cost of extracting injured riders.

Is there not a fee for being extracted?  I would have thought so.  I know when doing motorcycle track days and racing many have insurance to cover an Ambulance/helo ride out.  (This was in West Virginia, so maybe IN laws don't make you pay your own costs?)

I think if your doing something inherently dangerous such as MTB then you should eat the extraction costs for your injuries.  That said I'd rather pay $20/person/year than what I've heard most extraction costs are :)

Tech Bench / Re: Clipless or platforms
« on: January 20, 2016, 12:26:39 PM »
I think you'll get answers across the board here. I think it really comes down to personal preference.  I put platform/clipless combo pedals on my bike over the summer.  They let me ride platform or clipless, but the catch is you can only clip in on one side, so clipping in is a bit more PIA.  From all the reading I've done you really don't generate much if any additional power from "upstroke" though.  I do like the clipless when going through really bumpy terrain, and make me feel like I can keep pedalling through, where platforms I'm normally just fighting to keep my feet on the pedals.

That is my $.02
