Racing...from the novice to seasoned / Re: 3rd Annual Sub-9 Death March
« on: January 14, 2013, 10:09:27 PM »
So I read the FAQ but one part was not clear.  If I was to participate how many miles would I expect to ride?  I couldn't tell if 60-70 miles was the answer, or just the total mileage of all of the stops combined.  Not sure if I'll be in that kinda shape by then.

Find a Ride / Place to rent fat bikes
« on: January 03, 2013, 09:34:53 AM »
I wasn't sure where this should go so please feel free to move it.  Is there anywhere in Indy to rent a fat bike?  I saw some places in Alaska and Michigan but nowhere around here.  I'm really jonesing to try it but I don't wanna drop a grand on one.

Tech Bench / POC helmets?

Anyone have a POC helmet.  Specifically the Trabec line.  I want to get one but I havent been able to hold one, or talk to anyone who has one.

Yea I haven't run across any in Indiana.  I rode on a lot in Montana, but I dont think they are common in these parts.

Tech Bench / servicing a fox rear shock
« on: September 11, 2012, 07:26:35 AM »
K so I watched a video on how to do this, easy right?  I got the shock off the bike, got the air sleeve unscrewed.  There is this silver bushing that is in my way.  It looks like its 2 pieces that come out of the shock eyelet?  Is there an easy way to remove this so I can service my shock?  I took it to a bike shop last night but they were not sure how to do it.

Tech Bench / Re: adjust avid juicy 3's?
« on: August 23, 2012, 05:44:01 PM »
ok I read that in a few other posts.  Which are the calipar adjuster bolts?  Both times I have loosened bolts, pumped the brakes, and fluid and shot out.  This will now be my second time bleeding my brakes, hey at least im getting good at it.  Which bolts do I loosen?

Tech Bench / adjust avid juicy 3's?
« on: August 23, 2012, 08:48:40 AM »
Is it possible to adjust avid juicy 3's?  I get a dragging no matter what I do.  I realize these are the lowest of the line, am I just screwed?  I have added spacers to try and adjust them, but im just not getting enough clearance between the brake pads.  I bled them last night, but after the bleed I was back to the same issue.  Any ideas?

River Road Park/Hazel Dell Landing Park / Re: Trail Conditions

Tech Bench / can I go to a fork with more travel?
« on: March 08, 2012, 02:05:15 PM »
How much wiggle room is there on going to a fork with more travel.  Say a bike was shipped with a fork with 100mm of travel.  Can I put a fork with 140mm, 180mm?  I know at a certain point that has to throw off the geometry of the frame.  I just wasnt sure if i could go any bigger at all.

Tech Bench / Re: 26 wheels on a 29er

its definitely a combination of things.  He's new, this is his first bike since he was a kid.  I'm fairly sure it is sized correctly.  It is a GT Korakorum 2.0, i know I spelled that wrong.  I have some spare rims that I wanted to try this, so I could figure out if its the wheels or what.  I figured if I put some 26ers on there, then he rode it and had the same issues, we could eliminate that.  He really just needs more time on his bike.  I looked into doing those 96ers thinking that might be a happy medium, but it looks like that is frame based as well.

I'd like to try it because my brother bought a 29er and thinks its too fast and out of control.  We're having a hard time selling it, so I was hoping this would work just to get him back on his bike riding.

Is it possible to run 26in wheels on a frame and fork made for 29in wheels?

Tech Bench / Re: What to buy???
« on: November 15, 2011, 12:20:14 PM »
I did what you are about to do this summer.  I bought a bike on ebay that the whole drive train was shot.  I replaced it all myself with little to no guidance.  Pretty much just looked everything up online.  I did find one thing interesting while doing this.  If you are going to use your truvativ cranks, race face makes special chain rings for truvativ cranks.  When I ordered them, i ordered them wrong.  I called Jenson and they assured me the ones i bought would still work, and they seem to work fine.    Everything else was pretty much cake.  I had never owned a bike before I did this myself.
