If there is anything that needs to be done that I can do myself I have pretty good band-with most days.

Dude, that was pretty slick.  I am all set!

I get all my groceries at Kroger and I have been a big time Amazon Prime "Homer" for a long time!

My last words words probably be, "Did you buy my casket with my Smile.Amazon.com membership?"   :P

I was on the fence regarding a trip to Westwood yesterday but officer Wall gave me the push I needed.  :D

Great time of year to ride out there. The trail was great.

Tech Bench / Looking to retire my Specialized Roval SL carbon 29er wheels

Looking to retire my Specialized Roval SL carbon 29er wheels (too many spoke breaks after 5 years).

What do you think about the Stans Valor Team wheel set? They are a little heavier than the Spechy. 1441g v. 1380g.

Any other suggestions? I'd like to keep it light.

This would be only for cross country race type use.

Rants and Raves / Re: Bells on bikes..
« on: July 27, 2017, 09:44:27 PM »
Several years ago I just about ran into a runner at Town Run. It was at a totally blind corner and she was running the opposite direction. It could've been disastrous.

After that, I bought a bear bell and used it for a while. Not sure why I stopped, maybe I felt a little self-conscious.

I still believe it's a good thing.

Although, it's probably a moot point since it will never stop raining here.  :P

A little more info...

The Crystal Lake HOA governs that entire development.

When we ride the section of trail that includes "Talking Tree", out to the interstate, we are essentially riding on their land.

It behooves us to play nice!

Also, since the honeysuckle is starting to get thick, self-paced work will be going on sporadically, to trim back braches that hang over the trail. Other work sessions will likely going on as well.

You can park your car in Crystal Lake but only for walking onto the trail to do work. Don't leave your bike on your car. Also, Crystal Lake is not a place to enter the trail for running.

When you park your car in Crystal Lake for trail maintenance you may see homeowners looking at you. I like to approach them and tell them what I am doing. I have had good interactions with the home owners and it spreads the word around the neighborhood.

Crystal Lake has had more than their share of home break-ins. Don't be surprised if you see people watching you.

Brown County State Park / Re: Monday Maintenance 2017
« on: March 28, 2017, 08:04:43 AM »
We will start having Monday maintenance sessions starting April 3rd.

No experience is necessary, and tools will be provided.
Start times will be 5:30 PM. Meet at the North Shelter parking area, unless noted otherwise.
No problem if someone can't make that time and arrives later as we will post the general location of where we will be working.

Be sure to bring what you want to have such as gloves, water, bug spray, and eye protection.

Size matters.  ;)

General Trail Information / Re: Indianapolis Trails

Most people know that I'm a Town Run "Homer". I never tire of riding there.  I'd be glad to show you around when the trail dries enough. Send me a private message via this site or just post back when conditions are good and you are thinking of going out.

Check out the "Town Run Trail - Indianapolis" Facebook group page.  It will have trail condition info and other topics of interest.

Welcome!

FYI, the gentleman I met at Town Run was the “white bike with a dual-crown fork and battery packs on the downtube” dude.

Weeks later I saw him flying through dense traffic on the Monon. “Reckless” was the only way I could describe it. He was not pedaling.

In light of that, if I meet him again at Town Run I will make a note of his license plate and handicap tag.

My discussion with him will be respectful but different than my first discussion with him.

So what is the policy regarding these things on HMBA-maintained trails?

No motorized vehicles. Period.
