Avon - Washington Township Park / Re: Avon Trail Work

I was wondering if the bridge the boy scouts built has been moved back to its proper place. I was approached by the Eagle Scout who built the bridge but I have not been riding at Avon much so I could not give him an answer.

I just ran onto Dennis while riding. He was his usual negative self, threatening to shut the trail system down since there has not been any real trail work done in a couple of years. If someone has the time and energy to organize some trail work days it would help keep the peace with park management. There is plenty to do with the old trail system and building of new trails to make a complete loop in the back section. I hope there is enough volunteers to accomplish what needs to be done but first we need somebody to organize the days. My kids are at the age where I cannot commit to the time it takes to organize these events. I would hate to lose Avon because I live so close!

Todd thank you and all of the volunteers who helped you. I rode over there today and was very surprised all the work you accomplished. GREAT JOB!

Bob,
When are you planning a trail work day? The weeds are already getting tall from what i have been told and none of the downed trees have been cut and moved. I have not been over there much this year but this is what has been relayed to me. We probably need to do a maintenance day before we think about adding new trail. Let me know what you think.

There is nothing that can be done with hikers tripping on roots. These trails have been around along time and exposed roots will be a problem on most trails when they have been heavily used. Bob I think a work day needs to be scheduled before the weather gets to bad. We need to at least show we are still around to help maintain the trails. If Dennis cannot give us info on his so called trouble spots maybe we can get a start on adding trail to the new property. Let me know what day you plan.

Bob can you find out if the park is going to blow the leaves off the trails. Last year they did but years before that we did it. They are pretty thick now and a little dangerous.

Bob I went over today and moved the temporary bridge over to its new permanent location and got the guys at the park to put the poles in position for the scouts. I have a family reunion tomorrow so I probably won't make it over there tomorrow. I helped the scout in charge lay it out so between him and his dad they should be alright. If you happen to get a little time to go over and chech on things it might be a good idea. It will be cool when it is done.

Bob they are planning on starting at 8 but the scout in charge i told them to be there at 730 so they can have things organized. They will being doing most of the work but we need to move the bridge that is there now to its new location on the freeride trail. I cannot stay real long either but we can at least make sure it is done to our approval. The poles were delivered yesterday so it is just about getting those big things back to where they are going. Kyle is working that weekend so he will help with bobcat.

The boy scouts are planning on building a new bridge on august 20th to replace the bridges they took away from the freeride trail. i am sure they will need some supervision if anyone is available that day. I am supposed to be at a family reunion that day but i am going to try and get over there for a little while depending on my sons game time that morning. They are going to use 2 telephone poles and then nail 3ft planks to the poles. They are supposed to have everything pre-drilled so the biggest job will be getting those heavy poles in place. I am going to talk to the park manager and let him know and hope they are willing to use there bobcat to drag the poles to the location.

I went yesterday and cut all the brush away from the trails on the new property so hopefully that is done for this year. I talked to Steve and Dennis about the trees that have fallen on the trails but who knows how long that will take them to actually get out and remove them so if you see any of the park employees give them a friendly reminder. Trails are fast now so get out and ride!

Saturdays work out best for me also. That is when my kids do not have aswim meet or game. I was approached by a scout leader about possibly putting some of them to work on the trails to earn some kind of badges. I told him I would check into it. Let me know what you guys think about that. They would be more of the thirteen and over age group. Brian it is Mike Moore who is inquiring. So if you see him at work you might see what info you can get.

According to park employees the construction should be complete by the end of this month. The contracter is saying they will be done and out but we shall see. Bob when they open I will try to finish the weed eating in the back section.

Dave,                                                                                                                                                                                        I rode there yesterday and would call it yellow but with todays forecast it will be red again real quick.
