Every time I'm back visiting the midwest, I notice the *obese* people....

I don't think it's lack of parks. I think it's mindset.

Just bring your wheels inside ;)

Advocacy / Re: Western NC trails being evaluated as Wilderness
« on: December 17, 2015, 10:37:20 PM »

I sent an email out earlier today.

This has the potential to be a serious loss of mountain biking trails in North Carolina, on trails many of us have come to know and love!!! Read though the list of areas or trails that are being threatened!!!

Don't sit back and wait for others to speak out. If you wait too long, it could be too late.
Exactly. If all those trails were off limits to bikes??? The local shops might as well close the doors, because there will be nothing to ride in that area.

Hikers and horse riders are more than happy to have us banned from trails. It's unfortunate.

This is extremely important to fight if you guys want to continue riding the awesome Pisgah trails. We've lost a handful of amazing trails out here in Idaho for this very reason. very sad. I still want to visit Pisgah & ride there in the future.

Go to the bottom of this page to send an e-mail (very easy, 1 minute).

Pick up a shock pump from amazon, they are cheap.

My old FS trek came with a pump, newer bikes have not (manufacturers trying to save $$ I'm sure).

You should service fork & shock at minimum 1/year, more if you ride a lot. If seals are good, you should not have to mess with air pressure very often.

(Keep in mind, every time you put the shock pump *on*, air from the shock or fork is going into the pump, so it will read 5 - 10 psi less. When you disconnect, the air valve is closed and the hiss you hear is the air from the pump hose, so shock/fork will be set the the pressure you pumped it to)

Tech Bench / Re: Time pedal users: anyone have the newer (composite) style?

It was between Time and Crank Brothers. Guess I'll try Egg Beater 3's.

Who wants a good deal on a lightly used set of Time carbons?   :-\

They seem to fetch high $$ on ebay usually.

Flats are better anyways ;) I made the switch last winter, not going back anytime soon.

Do you have the cleats on the proper side?

If you mount them one way it is 13 degrees, the opposite way is 17 degrees.

Also, check your shoe is not hitting the pedal at all. My Sidi's were always fine no issues, but last pair of Pearl Izumis's I had to take a utility knife and cut a piece of the grip off that was touching the pedal, made for a very unpleasant experience trying to unclip.

I'm looking to move from SPD to Time mountain bike pedals.

I have heard folks with the older Time pedals say they are indestructible.

I have also heard that the new, composite types have an issue with pins coming out.

Anyone have a lot of rides in with the new style?

Any issues?

I had a year or so on the newer XC8's, no issues at all. (I think the pin issue was resolved but not 100% sure)

Rental a couple regular MTBs for my buddies, and a Ros9 29er+ for myself.
First time I rode a 1x11, nice but I won't be spending the $$ for that fancy cassette any time soon.

Was a totally different ride vs my bucksaw.

We did nebo, great as always.

Back to Idaho for me.... Enjoy your humidity!

Coming back to visit family and friends this long weekend. Hoping for an easy ride around the park (co workers have been slacking on their riding lol).....

Anyone know of fat bike rentals? If not I'll rent a skinny tire from Hesitation point shop in Nashville, but would prefer a fatty

Advocacy / Help save the trails from the Wilderness act
« on: August 06, 2015, 12:15:28 AM »
Here in Idaho we've lost a handful of amazing trails recently due to the Wilderness act that bans "mechanized travel" aka bikes. it's happening all over the country, we need to stop this madness.
