Waiting at the top one of our fine KPS volunteers will be holding a miniature bottle of bourbon (plastic airplane size) grab the bottle stuff it in your jersey, present it at the finish and you will be able to choose one of many fine bottles of Kentucky's Finest Bourbon, Jim Beam. Tech Bench / 29er wheels - Cross Ride or Black Flag?
« on: April 19, 2013, 09:51:55 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with the Cross ride disc 29?

Would one of the Sun Ringle Black Flag wheel sets (comp or expert) be better?

Find a Ride / Anyone from South Bend?
« on: March 13, 2013, 11:25:53 AM »
I will be in South Bend next weekend and would like to try and squeeze a ride in. I figure the trails are too far away for my time slot. Does anyone know any group road rides that head out Sunday morning? Or have any other suggestions?

Tech Bench / Any experience with a Garmin 301
« on: September 28, 2011, 04:03:41 PM »
I have a chance to get a 301 and thought I would see if anyone has used one of these. I was wondering how well it works in the woods with tree cover?

Tech Bench / SS gearing help for CX
« on: July 29, 2011, 02:38:41 PM »
I hope to give CX a try this fall. The thing is I don't have a CX bike.

I will be using a SS and need some help figuring out what gearing to use.

What I am looking for is what change in gearing do you use for CX compared to XC or gravel stuff?

Tech Bench / How big is your cyclocross/gravel tire?
« on: July 19, 2011, 10:21:51 AM »
I am looking to put some cyclocross tires on one of my bikes.

The duty would be for commuting and gravel riding like the Gravel Grovel and Death March kind of stuff.

I don't want to get too small of a tire that I am getting flats all the time in the gravel. But, I know the bigger the tire is, the more work it is to move. I also feel the smaller tires have a harder time keeping traction in gravel.

I am looking at a 42c and 35c tire and just wondering if anyone had any experience to share.

Find a Ride / Help finding a camp spot
« on: June 10, 2011, 05:55:30 PM »
Sorry this is not really find a ride topic unless someone wants to join me on my ride.

Next week I am dropping a few kids off at scout camp at Ransburg after some baseball games. I would like to find an inexpensive place I can throw up a tent and crash for the night. I will probably not be getting there until late.

I thought about driving over to BCSP, camping and riding in the morning, but I really would rather not pay $16 for the few hours I would actually be using my camp site. Is there any place around Ransburg or hickory area that I can crash?

My plan is to get a ride in the next morning, probably at BCSP or maybe Hickory.

Tech Bench / Looking for feed back on 29er forks
« on: April 19, 2011, 05:00:18 PM »
I am looking at upgrading the fork on one of my bikes. Here is a list of the potential options. I know some are supposedly better then others, but that usually comes at a price. I do not have a good history of having luck with air. I also know there is some difference in weight for these. I do want it to be as light as possible, but only if it is worth the extra $$.

Anyone have any experience with any of these?
