Brown County State Park / Any new trail updates
« on: April 18, 2021, 10:33:25 AM »
Down there last Friday and noticed work on Limekiln return near the firetower. Im guessing its real CLOSE to being ready. Any updates on that and the other trails planned? (Weedpatch2 and HP Return)? I know they've been working hard.

Just bought a new car, never had roof racks. Do these scratch any part of the car? Thanks for info

Morsches Park / Surprise, surprise!
« on: July 17, 2016, 12:58:44 PM »
While staying in Ft Wayne, decided to check this place out. Looking for something else besides Franke and didn't want to drive out to Winona. I had absolutely no expectations and was super surprised. This place packs a lot of fun in a small area. You could tell not many people ride it, but you can also tell it is maintained. This should be the model for small areas.

Find a Trail / Flint Ridge Trail, Nantahala Outdoor Ctr. NC
« on: June 14, 2016, 08:02:04 AM »
Has anybody ridden this trail? Its supposedly @ 8 miles, but its about 10-15 minutes from Tsali so I dont think many people ride it. Looks like it might be a good after dinner ride after a day at Mouse Branch/Thompson. Hard to find good internet info.

Fort Harrison State Park / Are the trails widening?
« on: March 21, 2016, 08:07:13 PM »
I am not a Fort Ben local, but I do ride it regularly. Is it just the time of year or does it seem like BOTH trails are getting wider? Rode the Fort today and it was great (as usual) but it had some serious mud puddles. It just seemed like its becoming single + 1/2 track instead of singletrack. Not just around mud sections its like the whole trail is wider. Just wondering what others think.

Versailles State Park / Is there a Festival this Sat?

Thought I saw somewhere about a Fat Tire Fest Sat Mar 5, is this true? Surprised nothing on here about it, not everyone does Facebook.

Find a Trail / Raccoon Mountain
« on: March 30, 2015, 03:50:31 PM »
On the way home from Fl, I kinda made an excuse to stop in Chattanooga to check out Raccoon Mtn. I was rushed for time and only had time to go CCW starting from the East overlook. This place is the BOMB!! I will definately be back, I didnt have time to check out Live Wire, but Megawatt is awesome. Alot of Megawatt was prolly over my ability but anyone could spend a FULL weekend here and have a blast. They have easy, flowy stuff and CRAZY Schooner type stuff. Trails are 2 way. Plus Chattanooga is only 15 minutes away and is really cool, good beer and food!  Oh yeah the views are amazing although I was rushed. Like I said a def "Go To" place.

Find a Trail / Santos
« on: March 30, 2015, 03:40:43 PM »
Had a chance to ride a portion of Santos last week.  Twice rode Nayles North and South plus Ern N Burn. These trails were actually really, really good. This section is just west of I-75.  If you park at the 49th St. lot, head West on Nayles, The North trail is better and longer than the South. I was amazed at how fun these are, kinda like Town Run on steroids. Was gonna check out more of this network but a local told me not to waste time riding the far eastern trails, which he said were flatter and open fields. I have no desire to do the Vortex jumper stuff.  This was much more fun than my other Fl. mtb experience, which was Caloosahatchee near Ft Myers. Which wasnt that bad either. Take a bike to FL!!

Find a Ride / Coldwater Bomb Dog, F.A.T.S. & Tsali lt & rt
« on: October 20, 2014, 11:11:01 AM »
My son and I decided to take a Fall break tour of some classic SE MTB trails. The 1st day we hit Coldwater in Alabama. An awesome trail, VERY Rocky. Tons of rideable rock features, the DH is absolutely amazing, but could use some TLC, some of the bermed turns are getting washed out. A recent storm came through and there were lots of BIG sticks (small branches) all over. Does NOT look like this trail gets a lot of traffic. The flow trails need a lot of work. This place reminded me of French Lick with more of a manmade approach, bigger DH with tons of jumps. Totally undergunned on a 26" & 29" hardtails. The climb is very easy, my old, intermediate ability arse didn't even have to come out of middle chain ring! The next day we headed East to F.A.T.S.. WOW this place is a 30+ mile pump track. Hardly any climbing, hardly any rocks but TONS and Tons of FLOW. At the end of the day we were wiped out and tired of constant FUN. Only did Skinny, Brown Wave & Great Wall, but these trails are 2 way and you will be tired of laughing. These reminded me of Green Valley where both directions seem downhill. Day 3 we move North to Tsali. It was Friday so Lt & Rt. loops were on tap. You can see why this place is an Epic. It has by far the prettiest scenery of all. The parking lot was full of people from all over the country! Ran into some people we saw at FATS, some people from Oregon, very cool vibe. Started the Lt  loop CW, rode out the lookouts. I was surprised at how manageable most of the climbs were, I only granny'd a few. Overall this place is AWESOME, however I wish we would've rode it CCW starting with the right Loop 1st. Cant really compare it to anything we have. Not very technical, just really AWESOME. These places should be ridden by ALL MTBers intermediate level and up. All 3 were very different!! All EPICS in my book.

Find a Ride / MoMBA
« on: July 27, 2014, 08:21:27 AM »
Had a chance to ride MoMBA last weekend. This is an area northeast of Dayton, just north of Wright Patterson AFB. This is  a small, compact area that claims to have 8.5 miles of trails. I only had a chance to ride 7 as darkness and rain set in. I would have to give this ride a big thumbs up. I would not say it is a destination ride, but if you are in this area of Ohio make sure you have your bike. Not a lot of elevation, but several creek crossings, a few bridges and features. Did get to the back of the park and rode Hawks Lair (there advanced trail), this trail has several quick 12 - 15 foot climbs and TONS of rocks!! Definately worthy of the rating. Like I said wouldn't  go there just for this place but if passing through I70 or in the area check this place out.

Southwestway Park / Trail Building Class
« on: May 16, 2014, 04:16:12 PM »
How many slots are normally reserved for something like this? Saw that the event is full, seems like "the more the merrier" approach would be good. Prolly not enough room in the library though. Any thoughts?

Tech Bench / Good, local wheel guy
« on: January 28, 2014, 01:09:39 PM »
Anybody know a good, Indy area wheel guy? Have a 29 Bontrager Ranger rear that I want to use as a backup. Keeps breaking spokes.
