Went and rode Copper Harbor's trails last month. They have an AWESOME trail system. Anyway, I was in the LBS speaking with the owner and he asked me where I was from. I told him near Seymour and only about 25 miles from Brown County State Park. He smiled and said that BCSP is on his "Bucket List". I found this impressive !!! So,, I thought I'd share this with you all. A BIG KUDOS to you all for keeping the trails @ BCSP up and maintained in a physical and or monetary source. This keeps people talking about them in a good way.

One of my PET PEEVES !!! If you pack it in,,,,,, PACK it out !!! This was actually taken today @ Versailles State Park. I ended up stopping and picking up 4 of these wrappers and a couple Cliff SHOT wrappers also. I guess they had a race there this past weekend. Certainly gives the mountain bikers a black eye IMHO. Especially to the NON-biking woodsenthusiast and users.

I started Mountain Biking in June of 2012. In March of 2013 my work schedule got changed. Fearing I wouldn't be up to par on the FEW days I might get to ride trails. I purchased a ROAD bike and rode it most of the summer. Even riding it to my place of work and back home 11 times. My commute to work consist of 14.5 miles one way. When I was able to ride the trails at BCSP, Muscatatuck & Versailles a few times. I could tell a drastic change in my stamina from the previous year. So,, I got to wondering how many other MTB'rs also use road bikes to stay in shape until the next trail ride ? I've noticed some bickering between Roadies and MTB'rs in some post. Not so much this forum but others in general.

My BUCKET LIST has a trip to MOAB on it. Anyone have some suggestions as to the best time of year to go ? I've only been riding MTB now for 2 years. Is this a far fetched notion on my part ? Just curious !!!! Thanks in advance

Got a chance to ride Monday. Noticed the new signs. Should help clear up some issues for newbies as far as Trail Etiquette and also Trail SAFETY. Also tried out the MAPRIKA app on my phone,, sent a TEST email to myself showing my location,, Right on the mark as I was sitting where Ayes meets HP. LOVE IT !!! Should be a blessing in an emergency type situation. Thanks for the new signs, trail marker #'s and the Maprika App.. Along with all the HARD work that you all (( You know who you are )) put in to the trail system here at BCSP

I was introduced to Mountain Biking in June of 2012 @ BCSP at the ripe old age of 52. I loved it,,,,, since then I've also ridden VSP, Muscatatuck Park, Nebo Ridge and some of the other Hoosier Nat. Trails over by Norman, IN. I couldn't get enough trail time in. Funny though, as I was riding and finding myself HUFFING AND PUFFING,,, heart ready to beat out of my chest. I thought to myself,, if I don't make it out of these woods,, my wife is going to kill me ! lol I'm sure she would/will be very upset with me should my ticker give out,,,, but,,,, I'm also sure she knows how much I love riding and would think to herself,,, " @ least he was doing something he really enjoyed ". There are by far worst ways to go. (I hope this post doesn't offend anyone as I'm not making lite of the loss of a person's life in any shape or form) My heart goes out to his family members and friends. So,, pedal on my fellow MTBrs !

REMINDS me of a song I once heard in a movie,,,,,,, "Just follow the Yellow Brick Leaf Road". WOW,,, I finally made it to BCSP Monday and was in awe of the colors that were once on the trees above. Yes,, ONCE on the trees and now on the ground. Awesome,, just as beautiful on the ground as they are on the trees I might add ! (up to a point) These leaves made the trails very interesting to say the least. I was only about 2 miles in on my ride when I encountered my first UNSEEN (covered with leaf) root. Almost wiped out !!! Kept the rubber side down tho !! OK, I now have a new respect for mother nature's splendor. Much like my first ride on acorns MARBLES a few weeks ago @ Muscatatuck Park ! lol She sure keeps it interesting ! Can't wait for the WHITE stuff if I can tuff it out !!!

I posted on the topic ""Winter's a-comin'! Gear suggestions? by Jonni5Alive "" thread. But, no replies back. So,, I'm gonna ask thru a new thread. I want to try and ride on moderate days thru wintertime. But, i have a disease called Raynaud's Disease. Which mainly affects your feet and hands in cool temps. Notice i said COOL !!! So,, winter is really tuff on this ol' guy. I'm also just plain COLD blooded. So,, I'm wondering if anyone uses Under Armour for their rides and if it is effective at keeping the BODY warm ? Then,, there is the question of type::: COMPRESSION fit style or the FITTED (looser) fit style. Any recommendations as to which is best for a cold blooded reptile type person ? lol

Well,,, my step-mother posted a pic on my FB wall of a Mountain Lion that had been struck/killed on the HWY just outside of VSP. Any truth to this ? I'm kinda upset as all I've been seeing while riding on the trails are Deer and Squirrels.

Well, I thought that I'd been on every trail in the park (except Schooner). Was looking at the map last night planing my ride for today. I realized I'd never been on the ACTUAL North Tower Loop trail. I've only ridden it along the bottom as a connector trail. I was thinking that I'd ridden it on my very first ride in the park. BOY was I wrong. Nothing like finding a trail you've not ridden yet. I'll be riding it more now. BTW,, I rode NTL and then hit the south trail head of GV and ended up with an 11 mile quickie for the day. Trails were good with just a few soft spots and puddles. Parked by the shelter house on North Gate.

I'm curious as to the ages of the riders that come to BCSP. I just started my MTB experience at the RIPE old age of 52 back in June of this year. ( 2012 ) I first thought that I'd be the only OLD GEEZER out on these trails. But, was really surprised by all the other ladies & gents with WHITE or GRAY showing in their hair after my first few rides. This ought to be fun !!!

Just curious as to the markers that are ALWAYS stuck in the cracks of that old picnic table on Grand View trail. How long has this been going on ? And who started it ? Pretty cool . Every time since my first ride there and every since then I've ridden there this summer there is always markers there. I find it humorous to see my friends faces when they see the attraction I've mentioned on our drive over. They are like I was when I first seen them. lol

Hey guys,, I thought that I'd ridden every trail @ Muscatatuck. But, sitting here on this rainy evening scrolling thru some of the older post. I see a trail named Park Ave Trail on the map. I guess I've overlooked this one somehow. Having lived just a few houses down from Park Ave on South Elm St. I used to use a foot path that was there for years to enter the park from Park Ave. I used this path when I was a kid as did my children. We even rode our bicycles on this path. 20 yrs ago or so. Would this old trail be the Park Ave trail or is it a TOTALLY dif trail altogether ? I know the old trail made it's way into the park following the lil creek bed. I guess I'll have to check it out during my next visit to the park.

Can someone educate me the difference between the 2 ! I've just started this MTB adventure and see the phrase " Single Track way more than Double Track. So,,,, now I'm curious as to the meanings. (( Just so I don't sound like a NOOB out on the trails should I get to talking to one of you SEASONED bikers )) hehe
